Hanwood face derby, Bowring face tough Meole test, St Georges look to bounce back<\/strong><\/p>\n

We reach the halfway point of the 2016 Flowfit Shropshire Premier League season and enter a crucial double header today and next Wednesday. The fiercest match up will be between Hanwood and Castlefields, a game that would have been eagerly anticipated, especially by the hosts. Both teams have come into form too, Hanwood beating St Georges 11-3 last home game after winning at Bylet and Castlefields having beat Bylet 12-2 last week at home. Hanwood captain Mark Shore knows\u00a0“this will arguably be our toughest game at The Cock this year as the fields lads know the green as well as any other side and they have quality players throughout the side. That said I’m hoping to build on past home performances and the good form we have been showing away. We believe Castlefields will be without a couple of strong players but we would be foolish to believe they will be a push over.” Callum Wraight and Rich Goddard will still be in the Isle of Man tomorrow so won’t be there for Castlefields, but with the Fields having a large squad, will be able to use their strength in depth.<\/p>\n

Bowring, after beating St Georges 10-4 to close the gap to just two, face a tougher task as they travel to the team directly below them by a point, Meole Brace. Bowring captain knows it’s “another tough game for us but we go there on the back of a good result. The aim as always is to try and get 4 winners as that would I feel be a decent return, any more would be a bonus. Meole are playing well and have a quality line up and I’m sure it will be a good game played in a good atmosphere.” Meole had a good start to their home season but only beat Wem USC 8-6 and Castlefields 9-5 in their last two games there, so will be hoping their good away form, the most away wins in the league, will come at home to. Bowring are in the middle of \u00a0a tough run and will be keen to get as many points to stay up the top end of the table. St Georges will be looking to bounce back from that result last week at the Bowring, but face a tough task against the Champions Newport, who have picked up lately and find themselves in 7th place, just 6 points off St Georges. Newport though have struggled up the top green though, despite a number of ex players, so St Georges could get a good home win to extend their lead at the top.<\/p>\n

Wrockwardine Wood find themselves in the unusual place of 13th place, but “after a solid 4 at the Champions last week, we are looking to gain confidence from that” according to captain Tom Langford. “The green has had a lot of work on it all week to try and get it to the wicket like pace us Wrockites are used to. Wem will come with high expectations having beat us last year at home and in the Mayhew this year. But with our current form looking good and a run of unfortunate matches, maybe change is afoot!” Wem USC did win 9-5 their last year, the Wrockites’ only home loss, so will be hoping for a repeat as Bylet have already won there this season so far, but they know it won’t be so easy this time round! Hadley USC are the only team below Wrockwardine Wood, and face their toughest task against a Sir John Bayley who have beaten them 6 out of 6 in their matches since the Huskies return to the league. The Bayley also bounced back from their home loss against Chester Road by thrashing Ifton 12-2, and will be looking for a good run now to move to the top of the table.<\/p>\n

Chester Road followed up that away win at the Bayley by thrashing Hadley USC 13-1 and will be confident of getting a result at the Bylet, where the home team have lost their last three games there. After a good start to the season the Bylet haven’t won in their last four and will be desperate to return to winning ways to avoid being dragged closer to the bottom. Two teams who will be looking to bounce back from last week are Burway and Ifton, who suffered disappointing results last week. Burway lost at home despite 7 winners and Ifton only got 2 at Bayley after missing some players, so both will be wanting to regain momentum after good results the week before.<\/p>\n
