Chester Road aim to move clear, Meole face tough Dragons test, Bayley and Castlefields face off<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are some important games at the top and bottom of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League in week 20. At the top leaders Chester Road aim to take advantage of the four teams below them\u00a0all playing each other as they tackle Hanwood at home. Hanwood hammered them 13-1 in the reverse fixture so they will be looking to gain revenge for that loss, their worse of the season. Hanwood wouldn’t have much experience of the green either so that could prove an advantage for the home side. Meole Brace in 2nd are also at home but face a tough task against 4th placed St Georges. The last time these two met on that green St Georges had all 8 winners in the Pool A final in 2014 but tonight will be a different game altogether. Home captain Mark Thomas wants “to keep destiny in our own hands, and to do that we need a minimum of 10 points. But if St Georges win at our place that would make them favourites. They beat us in the Pool A final on there but the new green was in a bad condition then. It really is an interesting league and any team that can pull of a shock result makes them favourites.” St Georges face a run of three away games, with Bayley and Wrockwardine Wood both to visit next week in rearranged games, and captain Tony Rhodes knows “it is a crucial time for us. It’s three away games on the bounce so we’ll try and hang in there because by the end of it we could be 20 points off the top. It’s not a great time to be playing away, but three of our last four are at home.”<\/p>\n

3rd placed Castlefields play 5th placed Sir John Bayley in another big game. Castlefields have moved up the table in recent weeks after some good away results but will be hoping to finish off an away game with some leads lost in recent weeks. The Bayley have two big home games coming up with St Georges on Tuesday too so know two big home wins will move them back up to the top. Captain Spencer Clarke says “Castlefields, for me, are probably the most dangerous side in the league so we will need to be very much at the top of our game to deliver the result we desire. We cannot afford any more slip ups at home so I will be looking for a big performance from the lads to stay in touch with the teams around us.” The big game at the bottom is Hadley USC against Wrockwardine Wood. Hadley face a big week, with their home game against Bylet next Thursday. As they trail at the bottom by 16 points, captain Rob Burroughs knows that “two big home wins are needed to get us back into the mix. Anything else and we are gonna face a massive challenge of staying off bottom spot.” Bylet travel to Ifton, and with that trip to Hadley and a visit to St Georges next Friday, it will be a tough next three games for them. But after two home wins they have points in the bag and hope to continue their momentum. They have a good record at Ifton too, scoring 5 there last season, but Ifton know they need to start winning big if they are to finish in the top 3.<\/p>\n

Bowring are another team who know they need to start winning well again at home if they are to break into the top 6 and maybe the top 3. They face a Newport side who are languishing down in 10th place, but with a game in hand know they can still make the top half with some good results. Burway can also break into the top half with a good finish and will fancy a chance of having a good home win over Wem USC. Wem though come off a great 12-2 win over the Bowring last week and will be hoping to keep that momentum going.<\/p>\n
