Bayley face tough Road trip, Meole face Fields, St Georges take on Wem<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sir John Bayley may be 13 points clear but face two tough tests starting with Chester Road away in Week 25 of the Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League if they are to claim their first ever title. Chester Road’s result last week at Meole Brace, where they scored 2, means they will struggle to win the league now unless they can hammer the Bayley. Captain Paul Fowles says “we are trying to get as many points as possible to finish as high as we can. I think they are in a very strong position and with their confidence being high I expect a hard game.” Bayley skipper Spencer Clarke warns “we might be in a great position and have points on the board, but we now face two tough away games, starting tomorrow night at Chester Road. The Roaders have had an amazing season, under the guidance of Paul Fowles, and their home form is rock solid so our aim is to come away with a reasonable points tally but more importantly avoid getting whacked.\u00a0 In terms of team news, then the only change from last week is Jason Groom returns for the unavailable Will Plant.” The Bayley won at Chester Road for the first time in the league last season but Chester Road are a different kettle of fish this one!<\/p>\n

Meole Brace are now in 2nd place but face a tough trip to their arch rival Castlefields. Captain Mark Thomas knows it is “make or break time, we have to win to have the slightest chance of the title. However even a good result may not be enough. We will give it our best shot and hope Chester Road get a score that takes the race to the last game.” Meole did get 8 winners at Castlefields last season but didn’t win the aggregate, and know something similar is needed if they have a slim chance of the title. St Georges are 22 points behind but even with a home game against Hanwood in hand know that they need to win or go close to winning on Wem USC tonight. They have won their in the past, in 2006 and 2009, but since 2011 they have scored at least 5 there.<\/p>\n

Bowring meet Ifton which could decide who finishes in 6th place and the last spot in the Pool A. Bowring skipper Rich Lawson is “looking to end the season with a good home win. The aim is to get a minimum 8 winners to maintain our push for a top 6 spot and to beat last year’s points tally.” Bowring are currently one point ahead of Ifton so Ifton know they need to keep the hosts within reasonable distance ahead of next week’s final games. But Ifton captain Dickie Jones knows “it will be another tough match, we will look to get 4 or 5 any more will be a bonus. We will have a few missing as they are in the Isle of Man.” Hanwood though may be the favourites with only being behind Bowring by 6 points with a game in hand at St Georges and two home games to come. The first is against a Wrockwardine Wood side who have picked up recently culiminating in a 11-3 win over Castlefields last week. But Hanwood’s home form has been good, dropping just one game against the Bylet and Hadley USC in their last two home games, and with a dry few days their green will be at its best.<\/p>\n

The two teams at the bottom are both on their travels and bottom placed Hadley USC face a slightly easier task in travelling to Burway, with Bylet visiting Champions Newport. Hadley have got 6 in the past on Burway and probably need about that to keep Bylet in check, with them having a game in hand next week. Bylet got whitewashed at Newport last season but with former Fishes player Scott Harries in their ranks they would fancy getting a few wins on there with Newport not as\u00a0strong. Newport have moved ahead of Burway into 9th place and are currently 8 points off 6th place so would be tough to make the Pool A or a top half finish. Burway are 10 behind Newport and need to be careful not to be overtaken by Wrockwardine Wood or Wem USC below, with the former only 5 points behind with a game in hand.<\/p>\n
