Bayley edge closer, Fields and Hanwood hammer opponents, Hadley level<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sir John Bayley edged closer to their first Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League title as they got 5 winners at Chester Road with just one game to go. They only dipped out on the aggregate by 8 too but those 5 winners mean they are 10 points clear of second place. Captain Spencer Clarke was “relieved to come thr0ugh the game unscatched, grabbing a vital 5 points which is priceless. It was a good match with Chester Road showing their class fighting back from 5-3 down to take all the back four and seal a 9-5 victory. Norman Harvey shone for us (winning 11 for joint best winner and MVP along with best winner Paul Evans 11) and Alan Purcell for them (winning 14 for MVP).” Best winner for the home side was Paul Latham 10. Castlefields are now in 2nd after hammering rivals Meole Brace 13-1. Only Colin Beaman won for Meole whose title hopes are over for another year. He won 18 to also claim MVP, with home joint captain Callum Wraight bouncing back from his defeat in the Crosfield Cup Final winning 8 to be best winner. Rich Goddard won MVP for his 11 win.<\/p>\n

Hanwood hammered another team at home 13-1, Wrockwardine Wood the victims this time. Captain Mark Shore commented on an “another fine home performance on a Friday\u00a0on a very tricky surface is how I would describe our game. There were some big cards throughout the night. Our first four got us off to a flying start and bar a mini revival from Dale Downes against Nick Davies no one looked in any danger. However the middle four was a different story. Mark Picknell bowled well to race 10-3 up against Glyn Wellings but Glyn rallied and fought back to win 21-17. At the same time the Wrockites had plenty to shout about as the classy Stuart Rutter bowled the best I have seen any visiting player play on the Cock green. He led Dave Burton 7-0 and without a few well hit strikes could have been further ahead. But the dog, having only arrived home from Cyprus earlier in the day, began a brilliant fight back and won 21-14 and a much deserved MVP. In the back and yet again I faced the opposing captain (Tom Langford). This game proved to be the tightest of the evening with Tom leading for 3\/4 of the game and hoped to maintain his unbeaten run of 7 but using the weight differences of the green I got out 17. Last on the green was Phil Lyttle and Rob Jones. Rob bowled well to gain the Wrockite’s point and the MVP award (winning 12). Next up a totally different challenge with a trip to the Dragons followed by our last game of our season against Wem.” Best winner for the home side was Wayne Phillips 5. This has moved Hanwood to 7th but with that game in hand at St Georges on most of the teams above.<\/p>\n

St Georges are just above in 6th, 22 points behind the leaders\u00a0with two home games left. They gained a good 6 at Wem USC with Glyn Picknell best winner and MVP 6 for them, with Derek Wright best winner for the home side 6 also but Chris Brettell got MVP for winning 11. Bowring are level with St Georges after beating Ifton 9-5, who are 5 behind them. Ifton captain Dickie Jones said “we shared the front four, Brian Hayes playing well to get another MVP (winning 20). Rocky Jones was 15-6 up before Jamie King found a mark to get back in the game and then managed to win 18. Craig Griffiths, playing with Hayesy bowls, played superb to beat Rich Lawson. At the back Geraint Williams and Dave Bond both had good wins (the latter the best winner 15). To get 5 winners against a good young team was a good result.” Best winners for Bowring were Dave Lloyd and Liam Stevens 5, but Rob Roden got MVP for winning 6.\u00a0Hadley USC are level with Bylet at the bottom of the table, although Bylet have a game in hand, after getting 4 at Burway. Ray Gregory was best winner 13 with Jim Fletcher MVP 14. For the home side Ben Allen was best winner and MVP for winning 3. Bylet got 2 at Newport, former homester Scott Harries and Tom McGill both won 15, with the latter gaining MVP. For the Champions Dale Rudrum was best winner 11 and Dave Rhodes got MVP for his 13 win.<\/p>\n

So at the top the Bayley are 10 points clear of Castlefields in 2nd. At the bottom Hadley USC and Bylet are level, but Bylet have a home game in hand against Wrockwardine Wood on Wednesday. Andy Moss sealed the League Averages after winning his 19th consecutive game to add this to the Most Consecutive Wins award. Stuart Rutter still leads by one MVP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
