Bayley need five, Hanwood aim to stay top 6,\u00a0Hadley need helping hand<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sir John Bayley are 5 points away from their first ever Flowfit Shropshire Premier Bowling League title in the last week of the 2016 season. They travel to Ifton and captain Spencer Clarke knows they are “nearly there, and heavy odd\u2019s on favourites, but mathematically we still need 5 points at Ifton to safely secure the title should other games go 14-0 to the chasing pack. We are in a tremendous position going into the last game but even now we still need to keep our feet firmly on the ground until the job is done. Ifton murdered us 12-2 last year and are a top class side so we will be taking nothing for granted and I expect the lads to continue to fighting for every chalk. Fingers crossed we get the points we need to clinch it, and then let the celebrations commence! As the Stone Roses once famously sang ‘this is the one’\u2026\u2026\u2026. we\u2019ve been waiting for!” Ifton could still get a top half finish, being 5 points behind Bowring, who travel to St Georges. Bowring have enjoyed a good season with their new signings but have yet to win away, and that is what may prevent them from breaking into the top half unless they go close to putting\u00a0it right tomorrow. St Georges are 12 behind Sir John Bayley, so know the title is pretty much out of reach but will be targeting 2nd place, their highest finish since 2010. Castlefields are currently in second place, two ahead of the Dragons, and will also be targeting their highest finish since 2010 when they last won the league. Castlefields travel to Bylet and having not won this season away from home they know they have to break this unwanted record if they want a 2nd place finish.<\/p>\n

Bylet are 10 clear of Hadley USC, and with a home game to finish, know they only need 5 points to avoid finishing bottom and the dreaded playoff place. Hadley USC need a helping hand from themselves against Chester Road at home and Castlefields, but spokesman Rob Burroughs knows “realistically we are going to finish bottom. We haven’t been able to catch Bylet after a poor first half to the season and fair play for them keeping themselves clear. We need to gain some momentum ahead of the playoff, with hopefully some key players back for the big game.” Chester Road are in 4th place and will still be believing they can catch Castlefields in 2nd, who are only 3 points ahead. It’s been a fantastic season regardless for the Road, improving from 11th place last season but will be desperate it won’t end in disappointment after being so high in the 2nd half of the season. Meole Brace are 7 behind Castlefields in 5th so will struggle to finish in 2nd place for a 5th straight season. They take on Burway at home and will be looking for a big win to put pressure on the top teams, and also hold off Hanwood just below them who also finish with a home game against Wem USC. Joint captain Mark Shore\u00a0will be hoping for his team “to continue our fine home form. Like all teams in this league Wem have some top players so we will have to be on it to push over the line.” They have also had a great 1st season back in the league, considering they started off with a whitewash away at Ifton, and could be the highest finishers in their first\u00a0season back in the league since Castlefields won the league in their debut season in 1995. Burway in 9th and Wem USC in 10th will be hoping to hold off Wrockwardine Wood below them who are 11 and 1 points behind respectively. But with Wrockwardine at home to Newport they know they should be able to catch Wem even if Burway are out of reach. But them and Newport will know this has been a disappointing season for them, both not being able to cope with losses of key players over the Winter. So either team\u00a0will hope for one final result to end the season on a high at least.<\/p>\n
