Pool A<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are two tasty ties in the BowlsTrader Pool A 1st round as St Georges take on Castlefields in what promises to be a fiery clash and Hanwood take on Meole Brace in a clash of a number of former players and even family rivalry. St Georges and Castlefields are the two most successful teams in the competition and will both be fired up to get one over each other and win a trophy this season. It was a fiery\u00a0clash back at St Georges in August where the Dragons beat the Fields 8-6, with the Fields’ lads fired up by St Georges’ captain Tony Rhodes being quoted\u00a0in the Shropshire Star saying that they “didn’t like\u00a0each other”. It promises to be a cracker of a tie up on Chester Road, where St Georges won first game of the season and Castlefields were close to winning last month when being 5-3 up after 8. The other tie is another rivalry between Hanwood and Meole Brace on Sir John Bayley. Both teams have connections with each other and have a healthy rivalry, with members of the Wellings’ family playing on both sides. Hanwood finished above Meole Brace in the league table and this means that “at the end of big year for Hanwood we go into the pool A match against Meole with our tails up” says joint captain Mark Shore. “We have virtually a whole squad to pick from and we will be going into the game with a very strong 8. We think this will be a very tight game but we are out to win it.” Meole Brace will be eager to get one over on Hanwood, they were beat by them in the 1st round of the KGJ Insurance County Cup earlier this season, and will be wanting to add to their Black Tech Ltd Alan Mayhew Trophy success.<\/p>\n

Pool B<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ifton are the joint most successful side in the BowlsTrader Pool B competition with Wrockwardine Wood, and face a Burway side on Castlefields who have never failed to reach the final since entering the league in 2013. Burway spokesman Wayne Rogers expects “it to be a close game between two evenly matched sides. We are at full strength but I believe Ifton may be a few short when I spoke to Dickie Jones (Ifton captain) last weekend.” Dickie comments “it’s a competition we usually do well in, and after a disappointing season it would be nice to win it again. But Burway are a decent side so I expect there won’t be much between both sides at the end.” Wrockwardine Wood will also be hoping to win something after a poor season and face Wem USC in their third cup competition of the season. It is 1 all at the moment with Wem winning the Black Tech Ltd Alan Mayhew Trophy tie and Wrockwardine the KGJ Insurance County Cup game. Both teams only finished 6 points apart in the table so it should be a close clash on Meole Brace. Newport and Bowring are favourites to beat bottom two sides Bylet and Hadley USC on Bowring and Newport respectively. Newport will be looking at this competition as one they can win and end on a high note after a poor season, while Bowring will be looking to add to their KGJ Insurance County Cup Triumph. For Bylet and Hadley USC they will be looking at a good run in this competition, with Hadley looking for some match practice ahead of their playoff final, and also looking to reenact their run to the final last season, while Bylet will be hoping they can add to their triumph in 2010.<\/p>\n

All players are reminded it is dress code<\/strong>, and captains are reminded that \u00a34<\/strong> needs to be given to the host club for use of their green. Also the winning team<\/strong>\u00a0is responsible for entering the result on line as they would do with league results.<\/p>\n
