Scott Simpson from Sir John Bayley today won the ECC Open after beating John Dewey of Derbyshire 9 in the final. He had a closer call in the Semi Finals beating Hanwood’s Greg Smith 16 while John had beaten Graeme Wilson in the other Semi 19. We had three losing Quarter Finalists with Scott beating team mate Tom Roden 14, Meole Brace’s Colin Beaman losing to John Dewey 13 and Callum Wraight of Castlefields dipping out to Wilson 19. Greg had beaten Wayne Ditchfield 15 at that stage after ending Josh Mordue’s fine form 21-9 and Paul Busby 13 first round. Scott had his closest call first game when edging out Darren Plenderleith 20, before beating Josh’s Dad Chris 11 in the 2nd round.\u00a0For our losing Quarter Finalists, Tom beat Paul Kissock 17 and Chris Brown 14, Colin got past\u00a0Bowring’s reigning League Merit Winner Josh Bradburn 16 and Paul Evans of Sir John Bayley 8, and Callum beat Mitchell Harvey 11 and Ryan Prosser 19.<\/p>\n
Ifton’s Andy Hughes won his first game against Bowring’s Rich Lawson 14 before getting 20 off\u00a0Ditchfield, while Duncan Pressley beat Pete Farmer 20 before finalist John Dewey just got past him 18. Paul Evans had won his first game 13 before coming up against Colin, while Jamie Wyer of St Georges dipped out 18 against Josh Mordue, and Castlefields’ Mike Beer 14 against Graeme Wilson, both in the 1st round.<\/p>\n
The league would like to congratulate Scott on his success and he will go on to play in the Champion of Champions on Saturday 23rd September.<\/p>\n
