The Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League have many players in the Les Evans Memorial Classic which promises to be an emotional day. The winner for the last two years, Hanwood’s Greg Smith will start as one of the favourites again but has a tough tie against ECC Open Winner Scott Simpson of Sir John Bayley, who beat him en route to that triumph. Callum Wraight from Castlefields will be another favourite to add to his two triumphs but faces former BCGBA Senior Individual Merit Winner Andy Spragg of Derbyshire. The reigning Shropshire Merit Winner Wayne Rogers from Burway takes on Meole Brace Open runner up Kevin Boon first round with former Spring Waterloo Winner Colin Beaman just below him in the draw playing Steve Morrey. Two Sir John Bayley team mates clash with Chris Ward and Ant Bracken taking on each other, with their team mates Paul Evans and Gordon Hawkins playing Gareth Herbert and Darren Plenderleith respectively. There is an all Premier League clash between former League Averages winners St Georges’ Glyn Picknell and Andy Moss of Chester Road. Glyn’s brother Mark aims to get past former BCGBA Senior Individual Merit Winner Tom Vickers with his Wrockwardine Wood team mate Stuart Rutter playing against former St Georges, Castlefields and Sir John Bayley player Craig Barker.\u00a0The other ties feature class players from all over the country; Carl Fielding taking on Lee Brown, Ross Dunkley against Tommy Johnstone, Glynn Storer playing Jamie Bramley, Meole Brace Open Winner Ryan Prosser versus Chris Brown, Paul Lamb playing Dan Petcher and Paul Bailey against Ben Harris.<\/p>\n
It promises to be a great day of bowling, but hopefully they’ll be another winner to. It’s nearly been a year since Mel Evans MBE was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and this will be the first competition, that he ran for his father, that he will be miss. But there will be three buckets there raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease and his partner Lynn Pritchatt has set up a Just Giving page here<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>to help fight the disease.\u00a0I hope we can all support this worthy cause for someone who has given so much to the sport over the years and will be sorely missed tomorrow.
