Hanmer aim to bounce back, Champs face long trip, St Georges in derby clash<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hanmer are looking to bounce back from two disappointing games in Gameweek 5 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they take on Meole Brace. Hanmer captain Dave Ellison admitted “we have had a bit of a wake up call the last 2 weeks but we need to start putting our home green to the maximum now with the next 2 Fridays at home. Meole are a good side but not many of their lads have seen Hanmer before and we need to make that advantage felt tomorrow night.” Opposition skipper Pete Bound knows “although Hanmer had a bad night at Wem last week (they got 1 there) I don’t think for one minute that they are going into the game thinking about another home defeat. We have to be at our best and cope with a difficult green that only a few of our players have played on. Getting off to a good start will be crucial. If we do then game on!” Hanmer will be hoping the weather holds up and not have a repeat of the rain that helped Castlefields in the last home game there. Bylet though will hope for some rain ahead of their trip to Hanwood. Hanwood have scored two 11-3 wins in their first two home games but beat Bylet 14-0 last season on there. However with Bylet being much improved this time round they will be very much hard pushed to do that again, given the weather has featured rain this week.<\/p>\n

The champions and league leaders Sir John Bayley face a long trip to Burway and will look to build on their good start featuring a shock 10-4 win at Ifton in their last away game. But Burway are a tough nut to crack at home, beating Chester Road and Wrockwardine Wood 10-4 in their first two home games and captain Chris Dovey knows it is a “very tough game and any kind of a win would be good. SJB are a very good side from 1 to 12 with nearly all county bowlers.” Castlefields are just three points behind the Bayley but also face a tough trip to Bowring. However with two of their players practising hard ahead of the County game next week on there, it is a good time for the Fields to go. Bowring have already beaten the Bayley 9-5 on there and know they will need a similar performance to defeat a Castlefields side who won on their last away trip. Wem USC find themselves in the unfamiliar position of 3rd place after two good home wins but are on their travels to Ifton this time round. Ifton got a good 5 at Bylet last week and will be determined to put right the wrongs of their last home game against the Bayley. Wem have a good record there, even winning there in 2013, so Ifton know a big improvement will be needed. Chester Road will also look to improve after their shock home defeat to St Georges last week. But they face a tough trip to Newport, a green they don’t have a good record on. Newport will be looking to move up the table to with only having one home game so far, and will want to match their 11-3 win in it.<\/p>\n

St Georges play Wrockwardine Wood in what is always a tasty game given the rivalry and closeness of the two teams in distance. Wrockwardine will also have an advantage according to Dragons Skipper Tony Rhodes in what he describes as “a tough game. Fixtures are against us with Nordley on Monday on our green, as well as Wrockwardine last night, so who knows.” Wrockwardine did only play two of their Premier League players last night with a further one on Monday. Wrockwardine Wood skipper Rob Jones will hope this gives those three players an advantage for them. There is “always a good healthy rivalry as we prepare to go up the road to St Georges. They are a decent side and don’t need to make up many points to have a chance this year and with the additions they have made that will be their objective I’m sure. Our objective is to get more points in every game v last year, win well at home, compete better away and see where that gets us and that’s no different for Friday, we will look to beat last years score (they got 6 there). I’ve even heard there a little run in the green, but I’ll need to see that to believe it!” St Georges will look for a good home score to build on their excellent win last week, while the Wrockites will look for the same as last season!”<\/p>\n
