Bayley earn bragging rights, Newport continue good form, Hanwood earn good five<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sir John Bayley earned the bragging rights on Haygate Road with an 11-3 win over Bowring\u00a0in Gameweek 13 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They are now in 2nd place and managed to close the gap on the league leaders Castlefields by a point after they beat previous second placed team Meole Brace 10-4. They never looked back after racing 4-0 up with Ant Bracken best winner 3 but Bowring did fightback with 3 winners out of the last 8, Dave Lloyd the best 21-8. Bayley vice-captain Rob Burroughs commented “it was an excellent win over our neighbours and most of our wins were comprehensive. Ant was awesome in the corners, Steve Burroughs was back to his old self, and Alex was his usual deadly self. Reece and Lloydy played extremely well on the longer marks and Ayden played very well down the edge to just win his game.” Castlefields will be satisfied with their win with a few players out, but they did get Warwick and Worcester stars Tom Palmer and Phil Clinton to come and cover. It was a game of no single figure winners, Paul Williams was best for the Fields 11 while Meole captain Pete Bound was their best winning 13.<\/p>\n

Newport continued their good form with a 12-2 home win over Ifton. Skipper Mick Jones commented “with the green having some pace in it we took the first four to lead by 48, shared the middle four and then took the back four after John Roberts was 12-1 down and Peter Cookson 8-0 behind. So a great result for us.” Chris Grocott was best winner 5 for the home side with Nicky Jones best for the away winning 12. Hanwood earned an excellent 5 from their trip to St Georges, making joint captain Mark Shore very pleased. “We had our second away game in a run of three and after the disappointment of only getting 2 at Burway we turned in a great team performance to get 5 off the Dragons. In the first four Ash Wellings continued his fine form with an excellent win against Peter Grimston. Game of the night was arguably Wayne Phillips v Dave King which saw some great bowls from both players which Wayne just got out 21-20. In the middle Clay Flattley was in fine form against his former colleague and friend Nick Davies. Clay gave Nick nothing and deserved his 21-5 victory (to be best winner). Dave Burton warmed up for the merit finals with an impressive win against Ian Gaut playing very well in the corners. In the back Lewis Scott bowled superb to end Phil Lyttle’s fine unbeaten run. Phil didn’t bowl bad for the chalks he got but Lewis again against us showed his class. I had a run of 16 to go from 1-1 against Jason Wilson utilising a short mark over the crown (to win 7 and be best winner). Danny Wornell last on ended his winless away record to earn\u00a0a solid win against Tom Langford. Very pleased to come away from Telford with the 5 points.”<\/p>\n

Bylet recorded a timely 10-4 win over Hanmer, a good result considering they were only 4 across after 8. Rob Steventon was their best with a 6 card while Marcus Hughes was best for the visitors 12, which helped keep them above their hosts. Chester Road also needed their 10-4 victory over Wem USC to move themselves level with Hanmer. Paul Griffiths earned a whitewash in his game while Colin Smith won 12 for the away side, to help keep them above Chester Road. Wrockwardine Wood earned an excellent 11-3 home win over Burway to move a point behind their visitors. Stuart Clee was best winner for the Wrockites 6 with Roy Crowther was the best for the Ludlow side 9.<\/p>\n

Castlefields lead Sir John Bayley by 7 points at the halfway stage, while Ifton’s point deduction means they are bottom by 2 points to the Bylet. Callum Wraight did manage to race back and play but lost so he is at 11 consecutive wins, with the person who beat him, Doug Edwards, now on 10 himself. Callum is top of the League Averages still though, by 7 chalks to Paul Reeves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
