DALE DOWNES WINS THE TROPHY FOR THE FIRST TIME……<\/p>\n

The Premier League Merit, held at Hadley United Services Club, on Sunday 10th August, was won for the first time by Dale Downes (Wrockwardine Wood) for the first time. The competition was sponsored for the second time by “Personnel Resource Centre”.<\/p>\n
In a competitive final enjoyed by the biggest crowd in recent years, he overcame previous winner Paul Williams (Castlefields) 21-19. Dale had played well all day and established an early 12-4 lead in the final bowling an immaculate length. Paul staged a mini comeback and reduced the deficit to 11-14 and lying on for 2, Dale played through the end and after removing both Paul’s bowls claimed 2 himself and moved to a 16-11 lead. The game then became nip and tuck with Paul outscoring Dale to close within one chalk at 19-18 down, but then Dale scored 1 to move 20-18 up before Paul saved game and with the score 19-20 Paul made a good lead which forced Dale to play a great bowl and having picked up the jack lay game on. Paul played up and although he made contact with Dales bowl he could not dislodge it and the trophy was Dale’s together with the \u00a3200 first prize.<\/p>\n

In the semi finals Dale beat Gary Cooper (St Georges) 21 12 and Williams overcame League Chairman John Nash (Meole Brace) 21 15.<\/p>\n
