<\/p>\nBowring’s Jamie King won the Lew Page Open at Severnside, making it a special couple of months for him after the birth of his son Rory in the New Year. He came out on top of 102 who took part, and was watched\u00a0by his partner Sally Clee and their baby son to make it even more special for him.<\/p>\n
King, who will again captain Bowring\u2019s Premier League team this year, got his hands on the Lew Page Trophy and \u00a3100 first prize by beating Paul Williams 21-17 in a final on the No.1 green that finished just before 6pm as the weather turned really cold. He recovered from 9-4 down against Paul, who is the record winner of this competition, to come out triumphant and sentence Paul to a third defeat in the final. He had beaten Clay Flattley in the Semi Final, again coming from behind 11-4 and then running out from 19-15. He also had a close game in the Quarter Finals against the returning Jon Palmer, winning 19. Paul had beaten surprise package Anthony Price in his Semi 15, who had earlier beaten reigning Merit winner Callum Wraight 15, with Paul having defeated Champion of Champion Mike Beer 11 in the Quarter Final.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m so happy to have won the Lew Page competition \u2013 a confidence boost ready for the start of the season,\u201d said Telford-based King. \u201cIt was a bit more special with Rory being there for his first day out at bowls \u2013 and thanks to those who stayed and supported me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Martin Codd pick up plenty of plaudits for running the competition with aplomb. \u201cMartin really did a superb job,\u201d said organiser and Severnside stalwart Terry Sambrook. \u201cWinner Jamie King bowled very well all day – and he did not have an easy draw.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sambrook & Co dropped the entry fee to \u00a35 after deciding not to hold a consolation KO and playing all ties with just four on the card instead of the usual six.<\/p>\n
