Meole and St Georges earn shock wins, Wrockites keep impressing<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meole Brace and St Georges both earned shock 10-6 away wins that kick-started both their seasons in Gameweek 4 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Meole Brace got themselves a win at another struggling team, Ifton. Victorious captain Andy Wigginton said it was a “real strange game as we had a marvellous start to go 3-1 up with Will Tarrell and Scott Moseley superb. Then 4 losers in the middle including 3 19s and including captain Twitchy again 19-14 up only not to score again to put us on back foot! Then went 6-3 down and behind on aggregate. Massive turning point was then Mark Thomas 20-11 down only to run out. Doug Edwards then won well which left Tim Jordan last on who had said he’d buy the drinks if we won. He duly held his nerve not worrying about his pocket for a superb win to shock the bowling nation!” But it wasn’t all good news for Meole. “Unfortunately we’ve lost John Nash for the season as he needs a triple bypass, we wish him all the best in his recovery (as does the league). Meole had three best winners of 9 with Scott Moseley, Will Tarrell and Doug Edwards all winning that, while Craig Griffiths won 8 to be best card for the home side. Chester Road are just above Ifton after only getting three winners at Castlefields. Martin Lloyd was their best winner 11 while for the Fields it was Keith Wall 5.<\/p>\n

St Georges bounced back well from last week’s home defeat as they won at Hanmer 10-6. Joint skipper Ian Gaut commented “everything that was missing from last week’s performance was back in last night’s. Great performances from all the winners but also John Cooke who got 19 from being dead and buried in his game to help set up Lewis Scott in the sort of situation he thrives on. Season back on track!” Nick Wyer was best winner 9 for the Dragons, while Mike Gilpin replied by the same score for the home side. Wem USC bounced back also from their opening home game loss as they beat a Burway side who had enjoyed a good start to the season. Mike Dulson led the way for them as he won 3 with Kev Dovey responded for the Ludlow side winning 11. Wrockwardine Wood though kept up their good form as they beat Bowring 12-2, pleasing captain Stuart Clee. “The performance as a whole was good. Great support from the lads on the side of the green. We have a good squad of 15\/16 this year and the lads that don\u2019t make the 12 are as important to me as the lads on the green and their support of the team has been second to none. I would just like to say a personal thank you to our ground staff, considering the weather the surface and pace of the green was brilliant. I would like to congratulate Jack Whitehead on playing superb against Andy Jones. Jack was never far away from the start to the end of his game and I have seen very few people play Wrockwardine Wood so well!!\u00a0Would like to wish the Bowring lads all the best for the rest of the year and look forward to the return fixture.” Jack was best winner 11 for the visitors, with Dan Taylor best for the home side 5.<\/p>\n

Sir John Bayley remain top as they defeated Hanwood 10-4. It was a night of close games, with 8 games having the losing player scoring 17 or over, with both teams winning 4 of them each. Ash Wellings was best for the away side of these 4, 17, while Spencer Clarke, who has won player of the month for April, won 4 for the home side. Newport though gained a point on them as they defeated Bylet 11-3, despite former player Scott Harries being their best winner 15. Former Bylet player Phil Emery was the Fishes’ best winning 4.<\/p>\n

Sir John Bayley are two ahead of Newport, who are another two ahead of Castlefields and Wrockwardine Wood. At the bottom and Ifton are a point behind Chester Road. Spencer Clarke leads the averages with 4 out of 4 and plus 42, heading another 11 players with a perfect record from 4 games this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
