Hanwood halt Wrockites, Newport keep on winning, Fields beat Bayley<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hanwood halted the form team in Wrockwardine Wood as they finally turned around their away day woes in Gameweek 8 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They got 7 winners there and drew the aggregate to gain 9 points overall, with Mark Shore the hero last on. “Great battling result Friday from the lads. Having gone down 4-0 off the front and having Ash Wellings 10-0 down, Rob Carter 8-0 down and Wayne Phillips 9-3 down it looked like a real thrashing in the making. But the lads in the middle dug in hard and we took the middle four games to draw level on games off 8. Dave Payne then played superb to get a great result off Andy Jones and Phil Lyttle having just arrived home from holiday snatched another point. Nick Davies always up the line kept knocking the jack on the head to put in a great 21-11 win against Dan Taylor (to be best winner). This left me on the green 16-9 down needing to get 19 for the win. Steve Roberts lay game at 19-13 with two real bowls which were dispatched with a sharp fire on the peg. I scrabbled to 18 to secure the draw. A result I would have snatched your hand off for at 8:10.” Wrockwardine captain Stuart Clee was best winner to continue his fine form 5, but it wasn’t quite enough to keep their great start up. Newport though are still right in form after winning 12-4 at Hanmer, but it wasn’t completely plain sailing as mentioned by the captain Sam Millward. “We were 3-1 down off the front so brilliant from the lads to win as we did, great round the green all night.”Peter Farmer won his 22nd consecutive match 21-4 to be best winner, with Hanmer’s Lee Peate their best winner 9.<\/p>\n

Castlefields defeated Sir John Bayley 11-3 to keep their quiet progress going. Non-playing skipper Alan Peach commented on a “great result against a very god team. Not sure the rain made it a homesters green but thought we played well. One or two results maybe went our way so I’m sure the Bayley will be up there at the end of the season.” Keith Walton was best winner 7 for the Fields with Kieran Buckley winning the same score to be best winner for the away side. Bylet will be very happy with their 6 at the Bowring, and got close to winning the aggregate as they only lost by 8 chalks. Tim Ealey was best winner 9 with Jamie King replying for the home side 7 who continue to be stuck at the bottom end of the table. Chester Road are another away side that will be happy with their haul as they got 5 at Burway. Captain Paul Fowles said it was a “very good result for us, we played very well as a team. We are going ok they played well and as always when you play them the game is played in the right spirit. Must say that their green is by far the best I have seen this year.” Paul Latham was best winner 10 while Wayne Rogers and Ben Allen were joint best for the Ludlow side 7.\u00a0The remaining two matches finished 10-4 to the home side. St Georges defeated Meole Brace with with Tony Rhodes best winner 6 and Julian Cooke 14 for the visitors. Wem USC also beat Ifton, Scott Thomas the best 5 and Craig Griffiths replying for the Miners 11.<\/p>\n

Newport are top of the league by 8 points to Castlefields and Wrockwardine Wood. Ifton are bottom by 4 points to Hanmer. There are still 5 players unbeaten out of the 8 games, with Pete Farmer on top by just 3 chalks. Kiah Roberts won the May Shropshire Printers player of the month award.<\/p>\n
