Hanmer get vital win, Hanwood, Ifton and Meole all gain big home wins<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was a remarkable Gameweek 11 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League as surely in the first time in its history all games ended in only two results, 12-2 or 10-4! Hanmer will be very happy with their 10-4 as they beat Champions Castlefields for their first win since 11th May. Captain Dave Ellison said “it was our best performance of the season played in a great spirit against the Fields. Lee Peate (best winner 6) and Mike Gilpin led the way at the front and backed up by another good performance from Martin Elson in the middle. We were 4-4 after eight and then proceeded to win the back four which gave us a very welcome win! Callum Wraight and Mike Beer (best winner 7) showed why Hanmer is their second home!” The other two teams to win 10-4 were Sir John Bayley and Bylet over Wem USC and Chester Road respectively. Wem fought back well to get 4 winners and keep up their good form, with Chris Brettell their best winner 11, while Bayley captain Chris Worthington returned to form with his 9 win to lead by example. Bylet’s captain Scott Harries led by example himself with his 7 win as they kept up their good run, with Martin Lloyd responding with a 9 win for the visitors as they slowly start getting towards some good results.<\/p>\n

The other games ended 12-2 to the home side. Hanwood beat a St Georges team who have been excellent so far away from home this season. Glyn Wellings was best winner 6 as the Shrewsbury side moved up to third in the table, while John Cooke was best winner, 13, for the Dragons. Newport moved 10 points clear and 15 ahead of Hanwood as they hammered the Bowring 12-2 with 5 single figure wins. Peter Cookson was the best of them, 21-4, as Peter Farmer won his 25 consecutive Premier League game. Reece Farr was the best of the two winners for Bowring as they still continue to be stuck at the bottom end of the table. Ifton though are moving away after their terrible start after beating Wrockwardine Wood 12-2, a team that traditionally does well there. Captain Dickie Jones commented on a “great win against a team that usually do well at our green. We won all the first four although Liam Stevens nearly beat Andy Hughes after being 19-12 down to only lose 20. Ian Metcalfe played very well to race 15-2 up on Mark Picknell before winning to 15. Geraint Williams then summed up our fighting spirit from 8-3 down to then go 17-8 up against Andy Jones before winning to 14.” Dave Bond was best winner 10 for them, while Martin Williams won to 1 for the visitors, the (joint?) second highest away win ever recorded in the league, as Wrockwardine Wood struggle to maintain their early season form.<\/p>\n

Meole Brace beat Burway to inflict a second poor result on the Ludlow side after their home defeat last week. Meole skipper Andy Wigginton said it was “another impressive display by the Meole boys. Julian Cooke had a man of the match performance in the front to beat Kiah Roberts to 10. Super game to watch was Wayne Rogers’ win against Scott Moseley. So a 3-1 off the front turned into a 6-2 middle lead with Andy Wigginton best winner of the night 6. Then clean sweep by the trusty back four with Mark Thomas and his modesty pills working well to win 8. Jon Lyttle, now settling in well, also winning comfortable and once again Doug Edwards, the finest number 12, finished off a super night!” Jolyon Partridge was best winner 14 for the visitors.<\/p>\n

Newport lead by 10 to Sir John Bayley, with Hanwood a further 5 behind. Hanmer are still bottom despite their win, 3 behind Chester Road and the Bowring. Peter Farmer is 2 chalks ahead of team mate Russ Pegram as both players are unbeaten from 11 games, as Steve Roberts lost his first after winning his first 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
