Castlefields have pulled themselves right back in the title race after winning 11-5 at Chester Road and both teams above them failing to win in Gameweek 18 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Captain Alan Peach said it was a “great result on a very fast and difficult green. The team is playing well at the moment and the atmosphere amongst the players is brilliant. Good mention to Ade Rowe and Rich Goddard who have hit form.” Mike Beer was best winner 13, while for the home side it was Steve Rogers by the same score. Leaders Newport lost at Bylet 9-5 as Bylet showed that they are in excellent form still. Captain Scott Harries said “we were superb from start to finish, leading the agg all the way! On a screaming green, the fastest we’ve had it all season we came flying out the traps to lead 4-0 +36. Newport finally settled into the game and took all 4 winners in the middle, in which 2 of them were to 19 and 20. We finally hit back in the back 4 to complete a fantastic victory over the league leaders and break our hoodoo at home against them. It could’ve been a bigger victory due to losing the close ones but I’d of took any win at the start. I don’t normally single out individuals as we are a team that wins together and loses together but Simon Rhodes must get a special mention for ending Pete Farmer’s 30 match unbeaten run winning 21-11. Overall very pleasing once again, our home form has been brilliant in all this hot weather and we must keep pushing on. Good luck to Newport in their quest for another league title, I for one as an ex player their am rooting for them to get the job done!” Scott himself was best winner 7, while it was opposition captain Sam Millward who was best for them 9. But they did gain a point on Sir John Bayley who got 4 at Hanwood, which is not a bad result there given the home form of the village side. Paul Evans was their best winner 9 with Glyn Wellings continuing his great season winning 6 for the home side.<\/p>\n

Wrockwardine Wood returned to their early season form by hammering Bowring 12-4 away, pleasing captain Stuart Clee. “We were brilliant from 1-12. Most of the league will have been looking at our form thinking we have gone off the boil but it’s great to get back on track with a result like that. To win by 45 away from home was fantastic. Our home form has been good all year so we remain in confident mood only losing 5 games from 18 so far and we are looking forward to another home game.” Josh Cotton marked his first Premier League start of the season by being best winner 5, while Ayden Smith was best winner for the home side 9. Wem USC earned another great away result by nearly winning their first away game in three years, as they drew 9-6 at Burway. Skipper Scott Thomas commented on “an extremely pleasing (if not slightly disappointing) result for us\u00a0on Friday<\/span><\/span>. We went to Burway with a game plan and it worked really well with some fantastic individual performances. Connor Whitehall\u2019s win at number twelve epitomised our fighting spirit in away games this season! It would have been nice to pick up one extra chalk from somewhere to give us the win and an extra two points but I\u2019d have taken 9 before the game – I\u2019d have snatched your hand off to be honest.\u00a0Above all it was so nice to play on a green that was in brilliant condition against a team who supported there own players. Competitive games can be played in the right spirit in this league, and there needs to be a lot more of that.” Derek Wright was their best winner 3, while Kiah Roberts was best winner for the home side, 21-4. Hanmer failed to repeat their draw of last year at St Georges as they got just 2 winners there, Mike Gilpin the best of them 15. The home side sealed their biggest home win of the season, with Pete Grimston the best of their winners 7. Ifton will be happy with 5 winners at Meole Brace. Dave Bond was their best winner 9, as Will Tarrell was best for the home side by the same score.<\/p>\n

Newport are 9 ahead of Sir John Bayley, with Castlefields now just another point behind. Hanmer are 18 behind Chester Road at the bottom of the league. Pete Farmer’s first loss of the season means Russ Pegram joins him on 17 wins, but Pete still has a better aggregate of 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
