Pontesbury have competed in the playoffs once in 2007 when they beat District by 56 chalks at Donnington Wood. They then came up against Newport and were 1 up after four despite only Daryl Edwards winning 15, but did waste some good leads. Newport took the whole of the middle four and found themselves 31 ahead, but Pontesbury fought back with Tony France winning 6 to reduce the deficit to 20 with two games left. With Dave Povey 18-9 and Andy Jones 16-9 up they were only 8 shots away from reaching the league. But they couldn’t quite manage it and lost by 10 to keep Newport in the league, and as they say the rest is history!
Pontesbury are still in the Tanners League, and made the Quarter Finals of the KGJ Insurance County Cup and lost by just two chalks in the final of the Shropshire Cup this season.
