Bottom two meet, Newport host Fields, Leaders at home
The bottom two meet in week 16 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Bottom placed Chester Road host Ifton with 9 points separating the two teams. Chester Road captain Paul Fowles says “our next two games are vital for us. Nothing less than a win tomorrow and a decent result at Hanmer and we have a big fight on our hands.” Ifton come in off the back of beating Newport and St Georges and getting 4 at Castlefields, showing their form is improving. Hanmer are only three ahead of Ifton now and make the long trip to Burway, who before getting 2 last week at Meole Brace, were on the up with their results. Wrockwardine Wood and Meole Brace are in a battle for a top six place and meet in Telford, with both teams having had good results recently, especially Meole who have already won two away games. Hanwood are only three points above Meole now but will be looking for a big home win over a resurgent Wem USC team, who have been the form team the last few games.
Leaders Sir John Bayley host Highley who have performed better away than at home including three away wins. Second placed Newport have the toughest game at home to fourth placed Castlefields. The Fields’s captain Alan Peach says “we go to Newport which has not been a very good hunting ground for us over the years. A very difficult green and a good team. We will try our best and get as many on the board as possible. It’s always a very competitive game against Newport with lots of banter.” Newport come off the back of two poor away results and will need a good home win to keep in touch with the leaders. St Georges host the Bylet who have famously won there in the recent past. Both sides have had great seasons so far and won’t want to waste that in the second half of the season.
