Four of top 5 meet, Bylet look to end run
Four of the top 5 meet in week 23 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. League leaders Sir John Bayley travel to 3rd placed Newport looking for a good result to keep a decent gap to them and 2nd placed Castlefields. They do have a good record on Newport, and will believe they can win on there, but Newport are a better side now and will still feel they can play their part in the title race. 2nd placed Castlefields host Hanmer looking for a big win to close the gap at the top. Hanmer still need the points at the bottom and have been good on their travels this season. Hanwood, in 4th, travel to 5th placed St Georges, with both teams in good form. Hanwood joint captain Mark Shore says “the big games are coming thick and fast now for us with four games to go we face a tough away trip against a team also pushing for third. We go into this game in great form and last nights draw draw loss result will make us more determined to secure as high a position as possible.” Opposition joint skipper Tony Rhodes knows it is a “tough game against a quality side who are more familiar with playing Prem and Wem on our green now so we expect a real challenge. Weve been good at home all season so heres to another top performance by the lads.”
Wrockwardine Wood will be looking to hold onto 6th when they host one of their challengers Highley. Skipper Rob Jones knows it is a “tough home game tomorrow against a side who recently knocked us out of the semi final of the Harris Cup. Although confident that off a scratch start we will win well at home.” Highley will be looking for a top half finish on their first season in the league. Meole Brace still have hopes of one though as they host Wem USC. Wem won there 13-3 last season and it would take some effort to repeat that and give themselves hope of a top half finish. Bylet have not won since June and know they need to beat Ifton at home to avoid any possible trouble at the end of the season. Ifton aren’t completely safe yet, but know one good result will virtually get them there. Bottom placed Chester Road travel to Burway knowing they will need to win an away game to have any chance of getting off bottom spot. Burway got a good 5 at the Bayley last week and will want to build on that.
