Top three look for away wins, Two of bottom three meet
The top three of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League will be looking for away wins in week 6 of the season. Leaders Wrockwardine Wood go to Newport looking to continue their early season form that has shot them to the top of the table. Newport enjoyed a good result in their last home game against Highley, and will know they will need to perform to avoid a first home defeat of the season. Castlefields are in 2nd and travel to Hanmer looking to continue their winning run. Hanmer though are in need of the points being just three points off bottom spot. Captain Mike Gilpin says “we return to Hanmer hoping to get some points on the board and push ourselves up the table. However we know it won’t be an easy task against a Castlefields side who have started well. Robin Bennett returns for us which will be a big boost for us after missing the last three weeks.” The Champions Sir John Bayley travel to bottom placed Bylet looking to close the gap on the teams above them, with Bylet looking to bounce back after losing their last home game versus Burway.
Third bottom Ifton will look for a good home win over second bottom Highley to move clear of trouble, but Highley did win there back in 2019. Wem USC are just above those two and have a tough trip to St Georges to negotiate, with the Dragons having won at Highley last week and looking to put behind their last home game loss against Castlefields. Meole Brace are sitting just above St Georges in fourth, and travel to sixth place Hanwood in a Shrewsbury derby with plenty of ex-players on either side. Meole joint skipper Mark Thomas says “we take the short trip to Hanwood for a game both sides want to win. We are playing well and expect a decent return, team selection and the draw will be key.” Burway are just behind Meole Brace and Hanwood and will look to take advantage of them playing each other as they take on Chester Road at home, looking to continue their good start this season. Chester Road will be looking for a decent points haul like they have achieved in their two away games this season.
