Wrockites win again, Highley draw, Fields earn big win, Fishes get 8 away
Wrockwardine Wood won away again in week 10 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they won 11-5 at Burway. They continued their excellent form in winning their 9th game out of 10 this season. Captain Rob Jones says it was a “great result on a difficult green and against a decent home team in Burway. Friday was a tricky game with three regulars on holiday but the squad as a whole continues to play well when their chance comes, and the result Friday was testament to that.” Best winner was Steve Roberts 8, with Kev Dovey best for the home side 7. They gained a point on Castlefields, who had their own fine win at League Champions Sir John Bayley 10-6. Skipper Adam Jones said it was “a really good win for us at the Bayley. We went there with some idea of the score we would like and obviously the 10-6 win exceeded that. Again all of the side played a vital role in securing the win and importantly the Aggregate which shows the togetherness we have in the squad. We continue to be grounded in our expectations for the year and we are taking each game as it comes.” Best winner was Mike Beer 9, with Alex Jones replying for the home side 12. Hanwood and St Georges lost ground on both teams, but the Dragons will be the happier having got 5 winners there. Martin Gaut was best winner for them 13, with the home side’s best being Ash Wellings 12.
At the bottom, there were some very interesting results. Highley managed to earn a draw at Chester Road with 6 winners, thus “winning” 8-7 there. Captain Stu Gittings says “Chester Road was in really good nick and a bit quicker than anticipated. Great start for us with Dave East (best winner 7), Dave Scriven and Andy James all winning. Our middle four performed well with Frank Leek once again playing some great stuff. Unfortunately our back 3 dropped 31 shots of which I was one of them who had a poor night. Fair play to Gary Beff‘s team they showed a lot of determination to get something out of that game.” Phil Scott was best winner for the home side 7. Newport had 8 winners at Bylet, but dipped out on the aggregate by 2 chalks. Skipper Ayden Smith said “it was about time for us to get a result. Absolute top quality result from a team more than capable of doing so. Not bad for Newport B! I think in my opinion, although it’s early on, I believe it shows that we are too good to be relegated!” Ayden was best winner himself 11, with Matt Ealey best for the home side 7. Ifton continued their good form with 5 winners at Hanmer. Nick Hughes was best winner 14, while Lee Peate was best for the hosts 7. Meole Brace moved themselves into the top five with a 12-2 win over Wem USC. Jon Lyttle was best winner 5, with Jamie Brookes best for Wem 12.
Wrockwardine Wood now lead by 10 over Castlefields, who are 21 ahead of Hanwood. Chester Road are one point behind the Bylet, who are a point behind Wem USC. Callum Wraight is now top of the League Averages with 9 wins out of 9, with Wayne Rogers and Will Tarrell level on wins with him, Wayne and Will having both won 8 games on the bounce.
