Castlefields whitewash, St Georges & Newport earn good home wins, Bayley win away
Castlefields closed the gap at the top to 6 points as they whitewashed Meole Brace 14-0 in week 11 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Joint captain Adam Jones said it was a “really good result against Meole, lads showed some great battling qualities in games that were close to get over the line. Meole always a tough game for us so to get a full house was brilliant.” Jon Palmer and Dave Peach were best winners for them 8. Wrockwardine Wood won 10-4 against Chester Road, with Mark Jones best winner 5. For the Roaders it was Gary Beff best winner 12, but the return of Andy Moss to the side is a big boost for them ahead of the second half of the season. St Georges and Newport enjoyed 11-3 home wins over Bylet and Burway respectively. St Georges best winner was Martin Gaut 7, with Sam Millward best for the visitors 16. Newport captain Ayden Smith said it was a “top performance. The team are actually starting to form into a team, 1 unit. 2 top results recently and fingers crossed we take them results into next week. A few of our players that I predicted at the start of the season are now starting to hit form.” Dale Rudrum was best winner 2, with Harry Parsonage and Duncan Pressley best for the visitors 17.
Sir John Bayley won away at Highley 10-6 to move into 3rd place. Spencer Clarke was best winner for them 7 in a 7 shot win, Phil Chester continuing his good form for Highley to be best winner 9. Hanwood drop down to 4th despite a good 7 winners at Ifton, losing by just 7 chalks. Ash Wellings was best winner for the visitors 13, and Martin Jones was best for the home side 3. Wem USC had a good 10-4 win over Hanmer to move them away from the bottom of the table. Sarah Weaver was best winner 8, and Joe Langford best 5 for the visitors.
Wrockwardine Wood are 6 ahead of Castlefields, with Sir John Bayley a further 26 behind. Bylet and Chester Road are dead level at the bottom of the table, 8 behind Wem USC. Callum Wraight is top of the League Averages with 9 wins, but there are 8 others on the same number of wins. Will Tarrell and Wayne Rogers both lost so their consecutive wins run at 8, and Mike Gilpin has now joined that number with his win Friday.
