Top 3 at home, Shrewsbury Derby, Big home game for Highley
The top 3 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League are all at home in week 19. Leaders Wrockwardine Wood host Newport looking to close out the title and break records in doing so. Newport though have had some good results recently and may fancy their chances on a running green of getting a few winners. Second placed Castlefields host Hanmer looking to bounce back from last weeks 3 winners at Hanwood, with Hanmer hoping to build on 5 winners just down the road at Meole in their last away game. The Champions Sir John Bayley have the Bylet at home who are desperate for the points at the bottom of the league. The Bayley will hope to take advantage of the two teams directly below them, Hanwood and St Georges, playing away. Hanwood play rivals Meole Brace in what is always a fiercely contested contest. Meole joint captain Mark Thomas says “the game at home to Hanwood suggests they come to us as favourites, as they play a running green more often than us. The weather has definitely quickened our green and it could be a late finish. We always look forward to Hanwood visiting and it’s going to be interesting to say the least, hoping for a win.” St Georges travel to Wem USC who aren’t out of the woods at the bottom yet. Skipper Tony Rhodes knows it is “always a tough place for us to go but I have to say that the spirit and results of late have been very good. Greens always challenging but need to get on the board early and state our intent.” Chester Road will be looking for a good home win over Burway to move away from trouble at the bottom, but Burway are after a top 6 finish for the first time ever in this league. Highley are bottom and after getting just 3 winners at home last time out must bounce back at home to Ifton, who themselves will want to bounce back from a home loss to the leaders last week. Captain Stu Gittings knows it is a “massive game for us tomorrow after a rather depressing previous home game as the green was rather sharp and we had not been on it for a couple of weeks. Expecting the green to quick and Ifton’s lads to be loud and proud (always a decent game with these). We need to get back in the saddle and put some points on the board we have a few guys back so looking forward to a strong finish in the league.”
