Week 20 Preview

Hanmer face Wrockites test, Bylet & Chester Road face home ties, Burway face Champs test

Hanmer face the task of taming the runaway league leaders Wrockwardine Wood in week 20 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Captain Mike Gilpin says “we welcome the champions elect to Hanmer and full credit to them for their performances this season. We have got an unbeaten home record to defend and we will be doing our upmost to defend it. I’m expecting a noisy encounter which we will all enjoy.” Wrockwardine know that some solid results now will earn their first league title. 2nd placed Castlefields will look to behind their recent difficulties as they travel to Bylet. Joint skipper Adam Jones says “we look forward to a trip to Bylet with us continuing to try and give our players further experience. Anything gained this year will continue to benefit our club in the long term.” Bylet need the points at the bottom and spokeswoman Cheryl Caswell says “we look forward to another tough game, this time against Castlefields who have had good fortunes during previous visits to us. We have had mixed fortunes at home this season and despite the change in weather, that will be sure to favour our visitors, we are determined to keep fighting in what is a crucial part of the season.” Chester Road will also look for a good home win over Meole Brace, who will look to bounce back from last week’s home loss.

Burway welcome the Champions to Ludlow looking for a top 6 place. Joint captain Jesse James says “always a tough game against the Bayley boys as on paper the best side in the league! After the change in weather and all the rain we’ve had it’ll come down to who adapts best to the change in pace of the green. Let’s see what happens!” The Bayley are joint 3rd at the moment, but their two rivals are both at home. Hanwood host Highley, who are sitting bottom and need all the points they can get, while St Georges entertain Newport, but Newport have been flying in recent weeks and are looking for a top half finish now. Ifton are another after a top half finish and host Wem USC who are still not safe themselves at the bottom of the league.
