Top Four all away, Relegation battle

The top four are all away in week 22 of the Salop Leisure Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Leaders Wrockwardine Wood travel to Meole Brace who are struggling for form at the moment. Meole joint captain Mark Thomas says “Wrockwardine will make the trip up the A5 looking like Champions in waiting. The sandwiches may have curled up by the time the match finishes unless the rain comes earlier than forecast. Everyone is looking forward to the game which maybe crucial for league places.” Wrockwardine captain Rob Jones says ““we go to Meole Brace with the usual plan, win as many as we can and see where that leaves us at 10pm.” 2nd placed Castlefields are another out of form and face a tough trip down the A49 to Burway. Burway joint captain Russ Davies says “we enjoy playing Castlefields, always have, a good club with friendly banter always been between us. Appreciate they may not be as strong on paper as years gone by but we know each of their players plays a good game and relish playing on a Burway surface similar to that you’re used to seeing Mark Selby play on. We lost our last home game and all are keen to put that right tomorrow. We’ve got a couple of players on holiday and Dave Wilding has an ingrowing hair on his left bum cheek so having an operation. Should be a great game and we look forward to our bar takings rocketing!” Sir John Bayley and St Georges both travel to in form teams in Chester Road and Ifton in games that could go either way. Hanwood will look to make ground on the teams above them with a home game against Newport who will be reeling from last week’s home loss versus Ifton. Hanmer host Highley with the away team looking at getting as many points as possible as the two teams below them meet in Bridgnorth as Bylet host Wem USC. Bylet spokeswoman Cheryl Caswell says “this week we welcome a Wem team who like us, have suffered a mixture of fortunes this season and I’m sure will be looking to improve as we get to the business end of the season. We know that a good result, for either team, could go a long way to being the difference between survival or the play off. Although we have a couple of players missing, we look forward to what will be a good match and a hard fought battle.”
