Hanmer edge home, Wrockwardine put wrong right, Dragons Roar
Hanmer edged home in week 4 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League against Sir John Bayley in the closest game of the season so far. It was a close game throughout, with home skipper Ieuan Pugh saying “I don’t think it was a game we were ever in front in until the end. The Bayley came with a strong side and that showed. We managed to get over the line in the end. It was a good night played the way the game should be played. We switch our attention to a tough away test next week against a top side.” Best winner for them was Robin Bennett 8 while for the away side it was Tom Roden 10. Wrockwardine Wood put right one of the few wrongs from last season as they won on the Bylet 12-4. Captain Rob Jones said “we simply didn’t turn up at Bylet last year, and things didn’t start well this year 3-1 down and 30 shots. To only have one more loser and comfortably take the aggregate from here was excellent, puts us back on track.” Best winner for the Wrockites was Liam Stevens 5, while Nick Wyer was best for the home side 7. Castlefields also put right a wrong from last season as they beat Chester Road 11-3 at home, a game they lost 12-4 last season. Tom Palmer was their best winner 5, with Andrew Davies the best for the Roaders 6.
St Georges had their first win of the season with a 12-2 win over Meole Brace to kickstart their season. Captain Tony Rhodes was “really pleased as Meole have players who can take points. Nice to get a home game under our belts.” Best winner was Ian Gaut 4, while Meole’s was Chris Jones 13. Highley recorded their first win of the season after beating Wem USC 9-5. Bruno Heath was best winner 5, with Andy Marshall best for the visitors 13. Burway recorded another solid away result when getting 4 winners at Hanwood, led by Kev Dovey’s 16 win. For the home side it was captain Rich Lawson who led the way 8. Ifton continued their great start with a 10-4 home win over Adderley. Best winner was Oliver Jones 8, with Steve Morrey best for the Adders 5.
Ifton lead Castlefields by 6 at the top of the table, while Highley and Chester Road are level at the bottom on 14 points, but both have games in hand. Five players have won 4 out of 4, led by last year’s winner Mike Beer.
