Adders face tough test, Wem aim to tame Dragons, Burway aim for first win
Adderley face a tough test in week 5 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they take on record winners Castlefields. Captain Gary Whitehall said “we look forward to playing many people’s favourites for the league and after playing them a couple of weeks back in the Mayhew we wouldn’t disagree to much . A different sort of test for us, whatever we get from the match we will have to work hard for and hopefully they’ll have to work a little harder than last time they came . Any chance of a dry warm night ? Probably not!” The Fields know a win there will lay down a good marker, especially after Adderley have had two good home wins so far. Wem USC face their own tough test against St Georges, hoping to bounce back from a defeat in their last home game against Ifton. Skipper George Williams says “we welcome St Georges to Wem hoping for a better home result than our last vs Ifton. We know St Georges are a quality side and we will have to be at our best. Hopefully the good performance we put in at Highley will give us the confidence to push on and get us a home win.” St Georges had a good home win last week and would like another win ahead of two home games next week. Burway are the only team yet to win at home this season but still have a decent points haul from their first four games. It won’t get any easier as they now entertain Sir John Bayley who have had a good start and will be wanting to put right a narrow defeat at Hanmer last week.
Chester Road will look to get their season properly going with completing four games in just 8 days. Stand in skipper Andy Smith said “the Roaders will consider it a major achievement if we manage to complete a home match for the first time this season! Hanwood are dangerous opponents and always play our green well so I anticipate a close fought match with plenty of good humoured banter both during the game and in the clubhouse afterwards.” Hanwood have had a solid start this season and know a win will be a big result for them. League leaders Ifton will look to extend their lead at the top with a home win over Highley, who are coming off their first win last week. League Champions Wrockwardine Wood will also look for a home win over Hanmer, but Hanmer will be confident as they beat them in the Barlows Fire & Security Alan Mayhew Trophy and are playing well at the moment. Meole Brace will look to bounce back from their 2 winners last week when they host the Bylet, who will also look to bounce back from their loss last week.
