Fields top with Whitewash, Dragons inflict first Ifton defeat, Roaders do well on Road again
Castlefields are now top of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League after inflicting a whitewash on Wem USC in week 6. Mike Beer led the way winning 1 to please captain Adie Rowe. “The green was superb. We talked about a big win and we got one. Credit to Wem for fighting all the way. There were a couple of close games that went our way. They’re short on numbers but have a good spirit so keep going boys. We wish them all the best for the season.” Ifton got their first defeat of the season at St Georges, but did get a good 5 winners there. Keiron Roberts was their best winner 11, while Clay Flattley was best for the home side 8. Sir John Bayley are second after having the best away result of the season so far, 14-2 at the Bylet. Skipper Dave Lloyd said “we couldn’t ask more from the lads against a new look Bylet side. After the first 2 blocks came off, both single figure losers, we picked up the next 10 was a massive achievement. A lot of good games on the night but we’re starting to turn them close games into wins which is crucial if you want to win away. We wish Scott and his team all the best for the rest of the season and hope it can click for them soon.” Scott Simpson was best winner 11, with Nick Wyer best for the home side 8. Wrockwardine Wood didn’t quite win like last year at Hanwood but they still picked up an impressive 6 winners at Hanwood. Captain Rob Jones said it was a “top quality game, full of great individual battles. I thought for 15-20 minutes after a clean sweep of the middle four and leading in most of the back we would take the game, but credit to Hanwood, they edged a game that swung both ways. That said not unhappy with 6 there, not everyone will go there and push them.” Jamie King was best winner for them 13, with the home side’s best being Glyn Wellings 9.
Chester Road got a great 9-7 win at Burway to please returning captain Gary Beff. “I am very happy with another excellent away performance following on from 7 winners at Highley on Wednesday.” Dan Hand was their best winner 8, with debutant Richard Lane and Kev Dovey best for the Ludlow side 9. Adderley battled back from 4-0 down at Highley to get 5 winners. Dave East had a fine win over Steve Morrey 6, who then won the Rudheath Open the night after. For the Adders it was Phil Jones who was best winner 14. Hanmer continued their fine start to the season as they beat Meole Brace 11-3. Neil Hayes and Joe Langford were best winners 7 and Mark Thomas was best for the away side 16.
On Saturday, Bylet got 5 winners at Chester Road as they finished off their game. Simon Rhodes was their best winner 11, while Martin Lloyd was the Roaders’ best 21-9.
Castlefields are 4 points clear of Sir John Bayley, who are another point ahead of Ifton. Wem USC are three adrift of Bylet at the bottom, and another 7 below Burway. Mike Beer still leads Sam Millward and Rich Lawson on 6 wins at the top of the League Averages.
