Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
Fields face Miners test, Shrewsbury & North Shropshire derbies
The league leaders Castlefields have a tough trip to previous leaders Ifton in week 7 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Captain Adie Rowe says “it is another big game on the road. We go there doing our best to win but realise they are a good side and it will be tough. We have a few changes from the Wednesday cup team but our squad is strong and we will be all out.” Ifton have been in great form so far this season, and know a good win will send out a message to the Fields and the other challengers. Sir John Bayley are sandwiched between the two teams and have their first home game in a month against Chester Road. The Roaders have been good on the road so far, with 7 winners at Highley and winning at Burway, but know this will be a much sterner test. There is a Shrewsbury derby as Meole Brace take on Hanwood for the second time in two days. It was a close contest in the cup and it promises to be another at Meole. Skipper Nick Davies says “hopefully with home advantage we can avenge the County cup defeat by Hanwood. The weather’s set fair, our green is in good condition and there should be a decent crowd. There will be plenty of good natured banter between the two teams and the game will be played in the right spirit. It’s going to be a tough game with the Hanwood boys hitting some decent form of late but as always Meole will be up for the challenge.” Hanwood have been in good form so far this season, and won at Meole last season 11-5.
There is a North Shropshire derby between Adderley and Hanmer, with both teams in good form so far this season. Adderley captain Gary Whitehall says “a tricky game for us against Hanmer as they are familiar with our green and players. After a defeat in our last home game we will be looking for any sort of a home win this week. A few extra cakes on for after the game and a new player making his debut for us so will hope for a good night.” Wrockwardine Wood will look for a big home win over Burway to keep pace with the teams at the top, but Burway have been good away from home so far, with 5 winners at Bylet and 4 winners at Hanwood. St Georges will be looking for an away win as they travel to Highley, but this is Highley’s third home game in 9 days so will be hoping that results continue to improve. The bottom two meet as Wem USC take on Bylet with both teams needing a good result to bounce back from poor results last week.
