Wem face Champs, Adderley face derby, Meole take on Bayley
Wem USC face a tough test in week 11 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they host the Champions Wrockwardine Wood. Captain George Williams said “we welcome the champions to Wem tomorrow in what will be another tough game for us, we know the quality players they possess. However our last home performance versus Hanmer was much improved so we have to try and build on that and start winning some of the close individual games.” Wrockwardine will know they have to win to keep up with the teams at the top, especially as Castlefields will be targetting a big home win over the Bylet. But Bylet have produced some good results this season away from home, like winning at Wem and getting 5 at Highley. Leaders and the in-form Sir John Bayley face a tough challenge as they travel to Meole Brace, who after beating Hanwood 13-1, then lost at home to Burway 7-9. Skipper Nick Davies says “we look forward to a home game against former Premier League Champions Sir John Bayley. As a team we’ll be looking to bounce back after losing at home to a very accomplished Burway. However, that’s not going to be easy against a classy Bayley who seem to be hitting some decent form of late. The whole team are up for it, the green should be running nicely and it’s set for a competitive game with a good crowd watching in the evening sun.”
Adderley face a tough derby against North Shropshire rivals Chester Road, a team that nearly won there when the whole 12 games of the Barlows Fire & Security Alan Mayhew Trophy 1st round were played on Adderley back in April. Captain Gary Whitehall says “we are 10 games in and the league is shaping up without to many surprises. Adderley are thoroughly enjoying the Premier League and we make no secret of our aim this season, to survive and be as competitive as possible. This week we welcome our neighbours Chester Road, we know them well and our games against them in all leagues are always played in the right spirits. We look forward to some summer night bowling and a few drinks along the way.” The Roaders have enjoyed some good away results so far this season, and will fancy their changes of another win on a North Shropshire green this season! St Georges meet Hanwood with both team having both dropped off from the top 3, and know they will need to put a good run together to catch them up. Hanwood skipper Rich Lawson said “going to be a tough ask as St Georges are a very good side, especially at home. Hopefully we can get 3 or 4 winners, anything else will be a bonus.” Ifton meet Hanmer with both teams wanting to bounce back from difficult results last week, but knowing they have had a good start to the season. Burway will be looking for a fourth win on the spin, after losing their first seven, when they travel to Highley. But Highley come back off a great 6 winners at Hanwood last week, and are unbeaten at home so far this season.
