Top 3 have good wins, Ifton return to form, Roaders dip out
The top 3 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League all had good wins in week 11. League leaders Sir John Bayley won 11-5 at Meole Brace to remain top. Captain Dave Lloyd said we “went to Meole hoping for any kind of result really, knew the teams around us would be having a chance to pick up points, so needed to do a job. Doug Edwards showed he’s still got a chance of a football career booting woods into the gutter, apart from that, very good result, keeping the winning streak going! UTB.” Best winner was Spencer Clarke 8, with Will Childs best for the home side 13. Castlefields gained one point on them with a 12-2 victory over the Bylet. Best winner for both sides were the captains, both 21-8, Adie Rowe for the Fields and Scott Harries for the Islanders. Wrockwardine Wood lost out on both teams despite a 10-6 win at Wem USC. Skipper Rob Jones said it was a “fantastic win given where we came from. Full credit to Wem they played a difficult paced green exceptionally well and built a commanding lead. We managed to scramble over the line, with Jamie King immaculate winning 21-2 last man on (to be best winner).” Best winner for Wem was Colin Smith 6.
Ifton got back to form with a 11-3 win over Hanmer, to set themselves up nicely with their rearranged game against Hanwood this Thursday. Captain Dickie Jones said it was a “good result on a tricky green. Rocky Jones played well in the front to win on his seasonal debut. Ian Jones (best winner 4) and Owen Jackson both won to keep their good runs going. Overall a good performance considering I had 8 players unavailable.” Best for Hanmer was Dave Ellison 6. St Georges also won 11-3 at home to Hanwood. Joe Killen was their best winner 4, with Wayne Phillips best for the visitors 11. Adderley got an important win over Chester Road 8-6, by 5 chalks. Their best winner was Ian Howell 6, while the Roaders’ was Chris Nicholson 5. Roaders captain Gary Beff was “very pleased to get 6 away anywhere in the Prem but just a bit disappointing to just miss out on the agg. It was a really good local derby though, good atmosphere and good spirit.” Highley continued their unbeaten start at home to Burway with a 10-4 victory. Stuart Gittings led the way 21-6 for them, with Kiah Roberts winning by the same score for the Ludlow side.
Sir John Bayley are 4 points clear of Castlefields, with Wrockwardine Wood another 4 behind. Wem USC are 10 behind Adderley, who are 4 adrift of Bylet. Alex Jones leads Jon Palmer and Sam Millward on 10 wins, with Jon now having won 10 games on the bounce.
