Bylet & Highley have big home wins, Fields defeat rivals
Bylet and Highley both had big home wins in week 15 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They won 12-2 against Adderley and Meole Brace respectively to give themselves more breathing space at the bottom of the league. Bylet spokeswoman Cheryl Caswell says “we needed to get a good result on Friday in what was an important week for us with two home games, and that’s what we did. I’m sure Adderley will be disappointed not to have earned at least another couple of points, but delighted with how well we battled throughout.” Best winner was Dan Davies 5, while Gary Whitehall was best winner again 13 for Adderley. Highley captain Reece Farr said “we’re happy to keep our home form going with a good win over Meole Brace. All our players played well and Connor Bray and Danny Statham were unlucky just to dip out.” Best winner for them was Dave East again 6, with Chris Jones best for Meole 18.
Castlefields beat rivals Wrockwardine Wood 10-4 to move within one point of leaders Sir John Bayley. Graham Wall was best winner 7, while Dan Taylor was best for the visitors 6. The Bayley came close to a big win at St Georges but just lost out by 3 chalks, losing 9-5. Tom Roden was their best winner 2, with Cody Everitt and Pete Grimston best for the home side 11. Ifton beat Burway 10-4 as Nicky Jones led by example 21-3, and Ben James for the Ludlow side 14. Chester Road also won 10-4 against Hanmer. Captain Gary Beff and Ben Hinton were best winners 10, with Dave Ellison best for the visitors 8. Wem USC got a vital 9-5 win over Hanwood to close the gap at the bottom. Skipper George Williams said “we were pleased with a solid win over a quality side such as Hanwood. Our home form has been getting better week on week, and I reminded my players of that before the game. Credit to Hanwood they played the game in the right spirits and were gracious in defeat, good luck to them for the rest of the season.” Colin Smith was their best winner 5, with Ash Wellings best for Hanwood 8.
Sir John Bayley are a point ahead of Castlefields and 8 more ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Wem USC are 4 adrift of Adderley, and another 12 behind Bylet. Alex Jones and Sam Millward have won 13 games, but Alex still leads the Consecutive Wins on 11.
