Fields Close Gap, Adderley Extend Gap, Burway win away
Castlefields closed the gap further at the top of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League in week 20. They won 12-4 at Wem USC to please captain Adie Rowe. “A good solid win for us to keep the pressure on the league leaders. Good wins for Gary Neal (best winner 5) and Mike Beer. Wem have a new squad with some good young players so all credit to them and they kept going all night.” Best winner for Wem was Mike Dulson 5. They have closed the gap to 6 points after Sir John Bayley beat Bylet 10-4. Best winner for them was Ayden Smith 4, while the two Ealeys, Matt and Tim, were best for the visitors 17. Wem though lost ground to Adderley as they won 11-3 over Highley. Skipper Gary Whitehall said “I think last Friday was always going to be difficult for Highley as I doubt any of them had ever played at Adderley before. Saying that it was a solid home performance and some points on the board for us.” Best winner was Jack Hazeldine 3, with Frank Leek best for Highley 9.
Wrockwardine Wood had a great 13-1 win over Hanwood. Spokesman Steve Roberts said it was a “really good performance where we kept the pressure on right from the start. Hanwood started well but the front four worked hard and got all four over the line. That really gave the rest momentum to carry on and get a really good home win.” Andy Jones and Liam Stevens were their best winners 5, while Simon Lane was best for the away side 17. Burway won their second away game of the season by just one chalk at Chester Road in a 11-5 success. Captain Jesse James said “a good win for us on the road, which helps us move up a position in the table. A solid start being 3-1 up gave us a good foundation to build on and we did. On to Friday now against Wrockwardine!” Lee Wilding was their best winner 13, with Martin Lloyd best for the Roaders 10. Ifton had a good 11-3 win over rivals St Georges to move level with them in 4th. Best winner was Martin Jones 7 for the Miners and Martin Gaut 17 for the Dragons. Meole Brace also won 11-3 against Hanmer, best winner being Aiden Hughes 6. For Hanmer best winner was Andy Armstrong 17.
