Shrewsbury & North Shropshire Derbies, Burway face Champs, Roaders takes on Leaders
There are two derbies in week 21 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Meole Brace take the short trip to Hanwood looking to build on their 13-1 victory over the same team back when the two teams met in May. Captain Nick Davies says “having had our best win of the season against Hanwood earlier in the season it’s now time for the reverse fixture. I’m certain that the Hanwood lads will be looking to reverse the score – however the weather forecast may dampen their mood. It’s been a long time since this fixture has been a mid table clash, with Hanwood being much higher in the league in previous years. It’s a local derby which players from both teams look forward to and enjoy a few beers after the game.” Hanwood also come off just one winner at Wrockwardine Wood, so will be looking for a response from that too. The other derby is in North Shropshire as Hanmer host Adderley. Home skipper Ieuan Pugh is “looking forward to a good game. We need a good win to maintain our top half push! We know it won’t be easy against them as they have a few ex homesters that play the green well.” Adderley come off a fine win last week, and will be looking to put more daylight between themselves and bottom placed Wem USC, who travel to Bylet this week, Bylet having enjoyed some good home results recently.
Burway host the Champions Wrockwardine Wood in buoyant mood after last week’s one shot win at Chester Road. Captain Jesse James says “a game we really want to win and a game that all of our lads & lasses will be up for! We field a young side so I expect lots of banter and plenty of noise, bring it on.” The Champions know they will need a perfect run to retain their title, but do come off a fine win last week. The league leaders Sir John Bayley face a trip up to Chester Road knowing a win is needed to keep Castlefields at bay. Chester Road come off a narrow home loss to Burway last week, and skipper Gary Beff knows a response is needed. “Obviously tomorrow night is a really tough task against in my opinion the best team in the league. We’ve had a couple of indifferent performances in the last 2 weeks so hopefully despite the opposition we can get back to winning ways!” Castlefields will look to take advantage of any Bayley slip up as they host Ifton, but Ifton are playing very well at the moment and battling St Georges for a top four spot. St Georges will look to pull away from Ifton as they host Highley, who come off just 3 winners at Adderley last week, however have been good away from home this season.
