There was a record breaking game at Burway in week 21 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. The 9-5 scoreline may look normal, but there were 10 single figure cards in total, as well as only a total aggregate score of 326, most likely both are records for this league. Burway captain Jesse James said “WOW, a very wet and mad night! Ben Allen was immaculate in the front, followed by solid performances from Kiah and Ben James. It gave us a 3-1 lead and we had two 21-3 winners in the middle which had the agg in the bag. I was on the green at the same time as Adam Dovey and Rich Lane (both best winner), but told they were both very good. Kev and Liam Dovey both won in the back and gave us a very good home win against last years champions. One very happy captain.” Best winner for Wrockwardine was Scott Moseley 4. Castlefields and Sir John Bayley both matched each other’s scores, with the Fields beating Ifton 12-2 at home and the Bayley winning 12-4 away at Chester Road. Fields skipper Adie Rowe said it was a “strong performance from us against a good Ifton team so very pleased to get a 12-2. Good wins from Hayden Lewis and Mike Beer (best winners 7) to set the tone for the night. Every game is a big game to the end of the season.” Keiron Roberts was best for the visitors 12. Bayley vice-captain Tom Roden said “we’re really happy with the 12-4 win at Chester Road. It’s a venue we’ve had mixed results on in the past. We travelled there knowing we needed at least an aggregate win to stay in the title race, and getting 8 winners along the way was a real bonus. Game of the night was the 1hr 15m battle between Scott Simpson and Gary Beff. Both played superbly in a cat and mouse game, and fortunately for us, Scott managed to get us a vital 21-20 win.” Captain Dave Lloyd was best winner 8 with Paul Griffiths best for the home side 9.
Wem USC put themselves back in the race to avoid bottom spot with a 11-5 win at Bylet, the same they won by last year. Captain George Williams said “I’m thoroughly pleased as captain with the result from my team on Friday. Unfortunately I had to pull out last minute with an illness but my team went out there and did the business for me both on the green and from what I’m told around the green too. It keeps us in touch with Adderley and if we can continue this team spirit I’m sure we can end the season strong.” Best winner was Ben Parkes 8, while Nick Wyer was best for the home side 9. Adderley got 4 winners at Hanmer, led by Connor Whitehall’s 12 win. Best winner for the home side was Graham Bennett 8. St Georges defeated Highley 11-3 with Pete Farmer best winner 5 for them and Phil Chester best for the away side 8. Meole Brace will be happy with their 5 winners at Hanwood. Ash Wellings was best winner 10 for the hosts, while Craig Wilson was best for Meole 14.
Sir John Bayley are 6 points ahead of Castlefields, who are another 18 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood. Wem USC are now just 3 behind Adderley, who are another 18 adrift of Bylet. Alex Jones is two wins ahead still at the top of the League Averages.
