Champs defeat leaders, Highley edge Fields, Burway & Hanwood beat bottom two
The Champions Wrockwardine Wood beat the league leaders Sir John Bayley 10-4 in week 22 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Skipper Rob Jones said it was “a high quality game full of top quality bowling on both sides. In the end we were very disappointed with 10-4 to be honest as four flattered them, but credit to them for edging them out. Overall it was pleasing that we proved it’s not easy to win here.” Best winner was Rich Morris 6 for them with Scott Simpson and Ayden Smith best winners 13 for the Bayley. Castlefields managed to gain two points on them as they cut the lead down to 4 after getting 6 winners at Highley but losing out on aggregate. Highley captain Reece Farr says “we’re delighted to finally beat Castlefields at home. We got off to a good start going 3-1 up, then Castlefields got back into it going 6-5 up but down on shots meaning Jack Jill only needed to win and he did the business! Some good games on show, Jon Heath played unreal against Wayne Rogers (to be best winner 5), Dave Peach was good against Danny Statham and Dave East vs Jon Palmer was a battle of the corners.” Fields captain Adie Rowe was best winner for them 9.
The bottom two both got 4 winners at home. Hanwood won 12-4 at Adderley with skipper Rich Lawson saying “a very good performance from 3-1 down after the first four, We’ve been due an away win as we’ve been playing well away without getting the results. I thought Steve Heighway was our best player winning 13. Steve along with Dave Turner have both been brought in from the Tanners side and have done extremely well. I wish Adderley all the best for the rest of the season.” Best winner for the Adders was Ian Howell 8, while for Hanwood it was Darren Wellings by the same score. Burway defeated Wem USC 12-4 with captain Jesse James saying “another great performance on the road. When the draw was done I fancied our chances and the lads and lasses didn’t half back that up. Our young side is maturing and getting better each game, onto next week now.” Best winner for them was Jesse himself 7, while Colin Smith was best for the home side 10. St Georges beat Hanmer 12-2 to continue their recent good run. Ian Gaut was best winner 4 with Lee Peate best for the visitors 14. Ifton matched that score at home to Bylet, with Martin Jones best winner 4 and Rich Taylor best for the Bridgnorth team 7. Meole Brace had a good 11-3 success over Chester Road as Mark Thomas led the way 21-11 and captain Gary Beff did the same for the Roaders 21-9.
Sir John Bayley now lead Castlefields by 4, with Wrockwardine Wood another 14 behind. Wem USC are 3 adrift of Adderley and another 16 behind Bylet. Alex Jones is one ahead of Reece Farr at the top of the League Averages, but he can’t be caught for the Most Consecutive Wins now.
