Fields face Dragons, South & North Shropshire Derbies, Roaders take on Champs
Castlefields face their old rivals St Georges in week 23 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they try and chase down the league leaders Sir John Bayley. Fields captain Adie Rowe knows it is “another big game for us as is everyone but we will be well up for it. We have made a couple of changes from last week and welcome Callum Wraight back into the team which obviously strengthens us.” St Georges are in good form themselves and aiming for a top 3 spot. Sir John Bayley will be looking to extend their lead at the top given the Fields’ tough game as they entertain Adderley for the first time. Adderley come off a bad result last week and need the points themselves to keep away from bottom spot currently held by Wem USC, who face a North Shropshire derby with Hanmer. Wem also come off a poor home result last week and know it will be a tough game at Hanmer, who are still holding onto a top half finish.
There is a South Shropshire derby between Bylet and Highley, with both teams safe already after finishing in the bottom two last season. Bylet spokeswoman Cheryl Caswell says “we look forward to welcoming Highley, a team we know very well and always have a close game with, so I expect nothing less. We are missing key players, but look forward to the challenge and a pint in the Hoss after the game no doubt.” Chester Road host the Champions Wrockwardine Wood looking to match last season’s 9-5 win over them. Captain Gary Beff says it is “another tough home game but one we are looking forward to. It is always good to test ourselves against some of the best players in the county. Hopefully we can produce a good performance and get a positive result.” Wrockwardine still aren’t guaranteed a top 3 spot yet so will want to produce an away win given they have 3 out of their last 4 away from home. Ifton could still get a top 3 spot with a great end to the season but face a tough trip to Hanwood, however did nearly win there last season when they got a draw. Hanwood skipper Rich Lawson said it “should be a very competitive game against a good Ifton side. We had a good away win last week so just looking to back that up with a decent home win.” Burway are flying at the moment and will want to keep their good form going at home to Meole Brace, who are only 6 points above them in 8th place.
