Wrockites lose in final

Wrockwardine Wood lost out in the final of the Arthur Land Super Cup to Crossgates by 34 after a superb effort to win this for the first time. They were 10 up after four blocks off, Dan Taylor best of three winners 31-24. However two losses in the back meant they lost the game despite captain Jamie King winning 22. They had an excellent win in their Semi Final against previous two time winners The George by just 2 chalks. They came back from 23 down after four blocks off, despite a fine win for Sam Millward 27 at number one. Captain Jamie King and Steve Broome started the comeback by winning 22 and 21 respectively to close the gap, and once Josh Cotton won 14, it meant Aaron just had to get 18 for them to get through, which he did when he got to 24-20 behind and they both came off.

Well done to Wrockwardine Wood on their fine run. The scores are below.

It was a poignant day as news filtered through after the final that Arthur Land has sadly passed away at the age of 93. Arthur did so much for the game, including creating this competition, and the league sends his condolences and thoughts to his family at this sad time. He is pictured below with Mick Jones after presenting St Georges with the Winsford Homes Trophy in 2001.
