Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
The first ticket to the Champion of Champions is back with the Coors Meole Open starting this weekend. A full field of 128 take part looking to book the 16 qualifying spaces on Sunday 7th April.
The Saturday morning sees former winner Matt Gilmore looks to add a second title on the Saturday morning, a session that features last year’s Hadley Open winner James Davison, former Champion of Champion winners John Bailey and Chris Mordue, Shropshire Merit winner Martin Lloyd and Castle Private champion Lee Johnstone. Ian Booth returns to Shropshire, where he won the Junior Merit, while former runner-up Martin Gaut aims to go one better. Cheryl Caswell and Sarah Skidmore look to be the first women to win a game at this competition and there are three Tom’s to look out for, Tom Palmer, Tom Roden and Tom Killen, all got the talent to land this title for the first time after an impressive 2023.
The afternoon sees Midland Masters winner Steve Pratt head seven players from the North Midlands including Pete Varney, alongside Autumn Waterloo winner Jon Palmer and Isle of Man winner Leighton Roberts. Josh Mordue travels down from Yorkshire along with Sarah Edmondson, and Chris Stretch will be hoping green knowledge helps along with Wayne Phillips.
Sunday morning has Callum Wraight looking to retain the title he won three times on the trot before losing out last year to eventual winner Andy Hughes. Wrockwardine Wood Open winner Elliot McGuinness is part of a quartet from the George, with Midland Masters winner Aaron Tapper and runner up Stuart Rutter featuring. New St Georges signing Keith Wall takes part, and Scott Moseley hopes green knowledge and his form from last weekend will help him qualify.
The afternoon has Merseyside Merit winner Phil Lee play alongside Cheshire Merit winner Tom Vickers, who travels down with Owen Cookson, Danny Nixon, Joe Tomkinson and Simon Cookson. North Midlands Merit winner Darren Plenderleith takes part, with Nordley trio Scott Simpson and Owen and Paul Evans there too. Former winner Paul Williams looks to roll back the years, along with Derek Wright, Chris Ward and Gordon Hawkins in an experienced packed field!
