Top two clash, Horsehay make home bow, Fields aim to bounce back
The top two of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League meet in week 2 in Wellington. 2023 Champions Sir John Bayley host 2022 Champions Wrockwardine Wood with home vice-captain Tom Roden saying “after a nip and tuck game last week at Highley, we’re expecting the same again this week. Wrock Wood have a great team and know our green well. Hopefully with the Mid-Shropshire league not kicking off until the 19th, we should have a good attendance.” Opposition captain Rob Jones is “looking forward to our visit to Haygate Road. SJB have assembled an impressive squad and are the team to beat following last year, we go there with a strong team and will look to get as many points as possible from a difficult fixture.” Castlefields are expected to be up there with those two teams and will look to bounce back with a good win over the Bylet, who know more than a couple of winners will represent a solid start to the season.
Horsehay make their home bow against St Georges, who know that a win there is critical if they want to break into the top 3. Spokesman Steve Reeves says “we look forward to welcoming our near neighbours St Georges for our home opener. Again we expect nothing more than a tough game but we will be up for it again and welcome back John Roberts to the squad. We know our home form is key and will be looking to put some more points on the board this week.” Hanmer will look to build on their away win at Adderley with a home win over the Hanwood, who want to bounce back from a disappointing start last week. Ifton and Highley also had disappointing results last week and meet in St Martins, while Burway and Adderley narrowly lost their first games, and play each other in Ludlow. Meole Brace and Wem USC though both had good starts and play in Shrewsbury, with Meole playing on their number 2 green for the first time since 2015.
