Dragons Roar, Bayley & Ifton win away, Adders & Fields win well
St Georges had another good result in week 3 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League as they beat Burway 13-1. Captain Josh Bradburn said it was a “great team performance from everyone, we won the close games which was crucial. The team is starting to click together which is very positive going forward.” Best winner was Ian Gaut 4, with Dave Wilding the winner for the visitors 20. Castlefields followed up last week’s 13-1 win with a 12-2 over Hanmer with Callum Wraight best winner again 4. Paul Griffiths was best winner for Hanmer 14. Adderley also won 12-2 to kickstart their season over Meole Brace. Skipper Gary Whitehall said “a good night with Meole as always and a solid team performance from our lads. Whilst we’ve scored ok so far it was good to get the first win under our belt!” Best winner was Jack Hazeldine 6 from 6-0 down with Phil Lyttle winning by the same score for Meole. Wrockwardine Wood also backed up their good start with a 11-3 victory over Wem USC, best winner being Chris Grocott 4 with Luke Boniface best for Wem 14.
Sir John Bayley kept their unbeaten start going with a 12-4 win at Hanwood. Vice-captain Tom Roden said “it was a really hard-fought win. Our front played well, but we ended up 3-1 down and about 25 shots behind. As always, the lads got their heads down and ground out 7 wins from the last 8 cards to pip the agg. We’d have taken any win before the game, so a 12-4 was a great night for us. Credit to the Hanwood lads, the atmosphere was excellent from start to finish.” Stuart Rutter was best winner for them 6 with Wayne Phillips best for Hanwood 7. Ifton also won away, 11-5 at the Bylet with Simon Tyler and Nick Jones best winners 12. For the home side it was Ian Hopson best winner 13. Highley got their first win with a 10-4 victory over Horsehay. Frank Leek led the way winning 7 with Olly Harris winning the same for the away side.
