Week 16 Preview

Top two meet, Bylet face Fields, Horsehay have tough trip

The top two meet in week 16 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Wrockwardine Wood trail league leaders Sir John Bayley by 18 points so know a big win is needed to reduce that deficit. Skipper Rob Jones says “tomorrow we entertain the current league leaders, we know that to achieve what we set out to at the beginning of the year we will need to hit the sort of numbers we hit two years ago, we’ve done it before so will have to see if we can go again. The pace set this year is ridiculous and the room for error practically zero, Let’s see.” Away vice-captain Tom Roden says “Friday’s game is as tough as they get. Wrockwardine Wood are a very good team, especially at home. We’ll have to be at our best to get a positive result. We’re in good form and look forward to challenging games.” Third placed Castlefields will be looking to capitalise on the top two meeting as they travel to the Bylet, who are looking for their first win since the first game of the season but find themselves three points above Horsehay at the bottom. Horsehay face their own tough game at St Georges, who come off a great 14-2 win at the Bylet and will want a similar points haul to gain on the teams above. Ifton, in fourth, are only two points above St Georges now and go to Highley where they did win last year. Highley have only won 8-6 in their last two home games so know an improved performance is needed to improve on that.

Wem USC will look to bounce back from their last home game as they host a Meole Brace side coming off two good home wins for differing reasons last week. Adderley had a good home win in their last game and play Burway who currently occupy the last top half spot as they look to finish in the top half for the first time in their history. Hanwood had a fine home win over Castlefields last week and will look for more of the same against Hanmer, who have started to finally hit the form of last season recently.
