Fields Ifton & Burway win big away, St Georges whitewash, Wrockites close gap
Three teams won big away in week 16 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Castlefields won 13-3 at the Bylet to close the gap on the teams above. Best winner was Wayne Rogers and Callum Wraight 6, with home captain Cheryl Caswell best for them 7. Ifton also won 13-3 down the road at Highley. Captain Dickie Jones says it was an “excellent team performance to get 9 winners away that keeps our good form going. Dave Scriven played well to beat Owen Jackson to be their only winner in the front.” Andy Armstrong was their best winner 8 while home skipper Stu Gittings was best winner 5 for them. Burway also won away at Adderley 12-4 to take a firmer grip on a top half finish. Skipper Adam Dovey was “delighted with the performance on Friday. Everyone played well, they played very well first 4 going 3-1 up with our players playing good stuff and Harry just losing 20. To win the next 7 out of 8 was a massive team effort and got to be one of our best performance away from home ever. Hoping to keep up the form against a very tough St Georges side who always play our green well.” Best winner for them was Dave Wilding 8, while Steve Morrey was best for the hosts 10. St Georges whitewashed Horsehay to give them a second consecutive away one. Skipper Josh Bradburn said it was a “great team result from all of the guys, a much needed win to push us closer to the top 4.” Best winners were Martin Gaut and Pete Farmer 5. Wrockwardine Wood closed the gap at the top of the table with a 10-4 win over the leaders Sir John Bayley. Jamie King was best winner 6 for them with Tom Roden best for the leaders 5. Hanmer will be happy with their 5 winners at Hanwood led by Robin Bennett’s 14 win, with the home’s best being Mark Parsons 5. Wem USC beat Meole Brace 10-4 as Colin Smith was best winner 10 and Chris Jones the best for the away side by the same score.
Sir John Bayley are 12 ahead of Wrockwardine Wood who are another 3 ahead of Castlefields. Horsehay are 6 behind the Bylet at the bottom. Callum Wraight leads Rich Lawson and Tom Roden on 14 wins.
