Bayley face tough trip, Bylet look to end run, Hanwood aim to return to form
Sir John Bayley face another tough trip in week 18 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They travel across Telford to St Georges who have only lost once at home this season and is a place traditionally the Bayley don’t do so well at. Vice-captain Tom Roden said “it’s another tough away game, St Georges are a good team on a good green, and have strengthened this season. We always enjoy the challenge and look forward to a competitive match that we need to perform well in.” Home skipper Josh Bradburn said this is a “big test for us against pound for pound the best team in the league. Looking to get a good home win and test ourselves again the big boys.” 2nd place Castlefields will look to take advantage at home to bottom side Horsehay, who know any point will be a big point for them. Bylet haven’t won since the first game of the season, 16 games ago, and know that another loss at home to Hanmer will break White Horse’s 16 game winless streak back in 2006. Hanmer haven’t won away since the first game of the season themselves, so the Bylet will be confident of a win.
Hanwood will aim to bounce back from just two winners at Sir John Bayley last week when they host Ifton. Skipper Simon Lane says “Ifton are a strong team that have already had some great away results this season so we are expecting a very tough game.” Ifton are still looking for a top three finish but know a win at Hanwood might be needed to achieve that. Wrockwardine Wood sit 12 points ahead of them in 3rd, and will look for a good home win over Meole Brace as they try and keep in the title picture, but Meole have picked up in form lately after a rocky spell a month or so ago. There is a North Shropshire derby as Adderley host Wem USC. Adderley captain Gary Whitehall says “we look forward to a local derby with USC and after another solid away performances it’s about time we managed a home result. Wem beat us at home last season and will fancy their chances again I’m sure with having more green knowledge than most visitors, it will be a good night with friends whatever the result.” Wem come off two home wins as they look for their first away win of the season. Highley entertain Burway with both teams coming in off different form, Highley have lost their last three while Burway have won their last three.
