Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowls League
Fields whitewash, Bayley get big win, Highley shock Wrockites
Castlefields continued their excellent form with a whitewash of Adderley in week 22 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Best winners for them were Wayne Rogers and Rich Goddard 7. They gained a point on league leaders Sir John Bayley as they won 13-3 at Horsehay. Vice-captain Tom Roden said “going into the game we had 3 or 4 players on holiday, some having to play and go, and others having to arrive late. So, given the circumstances, I’m really pleased with our performance and the result, we couldn’t have asked for more. I’d like to wish Horsehay all the best for the rest of the season.” Best winner for the Bayley was Scott Harries 5, with John Roberts best for the home side 11. Bylet did gain on Horsehay again but did lose again to Wem USC at home for the third consecutive season. Best winner for the hosts was Joe Dicken 11, while for Wem it was Mike Dulson 9.
Highley shocked Wrockwardine Wood with a 10-4 success. Skipper Stu Gittings said “well as previously said I thought it would be tight, and it proved to be! We got off to a great start having 4 winners although it looked like being more shots at one stage. The middle four was always going to be vital after the draw came out but fair play to our friends from Wrockwardine they put us under real pressure and we were thankful to get away with a slightly over flattering 10-4 victory. I have to say it was played in a good spirit apart from the odd moment!” Phil Chester was their best winner 7 and Jamie King best for the Wrockites 8. Hanwood also reversed their loss against St Georges last year after beating them 10-4. Shaun Bould was best winner 6, while Pete Farmer and Martin Gaut were best for the Dragons 9. Ifton continued their good form with a 10-4 success over Meole Brace, Owen Jackson leading the way 5. Tracy Bound was best for Meole 11. Hanmer defeated Burway 9-5, Lee Peate best winner 8 and Kiah Roberts best winner for the visitors 9.
Sir John Bayley are one above Castlefields, with Ifton now in 3rd, 26 points behind. Horsehay are 19 behind the Bylet, who are 14 behind Adderley. Callum Wraight is still 3 wins ahead of other players.
