Bottom two earn victories, Bayley extend, Hanmer hammer Wrockites
The bottom two earned victories in week 24 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Horsehay beat Wem USC 10-4 with Gareth Jones best winner 5 and Gareth Davies best for Wem 12. But the Bylet matched them against Adderley to keep the gap at 15 points. Captain Cheryl Caswell said “Adderley started superbly going 3-1 up but I’ve got to give credit to my lot, who had to battle and scrap away to earn what turned out to be a good result for us in the end. On another day the result could have gone the other way but fair play to Gary Whitehall who I thought played immaculate (to be best winner 5) and his Adderley team, who are a good bunch of lads!” Cheryl herself was best winner 8. Sir John Bayley extended their lead at the top of the table to 4 points after defeating Meole Brace 12-2. Scott Simpson was best winner 4 with Andy Wigginton best for Meole 9. Castlefields could only manage to beat St Georges 10-4, Glyn Herbert leading the way 21-3 for them and Pete Grimston best for the Dragons 6.
Hanmer hammered Wrockwardine Wood 11-3 for their best result of the season. Skipper Matt Beeston said “it was a really good performance from our lads. I think the green caught them off guard with the fact it wasn’t quick. Special mention to Joey Williams who bowled superb to beat Jamie King.” Dave Ellison was best winner 1 for them, while for the Wrockites it was Martin Williams 11. Burway earned a super six winners at Ifton. Captain Adam Dovey is “really happy with the result on Friday after a slightly disappointing result at home the week before. To get 6 games against a really strong team on a green we don’t usually do too well at was very pleasing. Hopefully take that form into a really tough game on Wednesday.” Richard Lane was their best winner 7 and Owen Jackson best for Ifton 2. Hanwood beat Highley 10-4 to put themselves in pole position for 6th place. Best winner was Glyn Wellings 11 and Frank Leek best winner 12 for the visitors.
Sir John Bayley now lead Castlefields by 4 at the top, and Bylet are 15 above Horsehay at the bottom. Callum Wraight has won the League Averages and Most Consecutive Wins.
