Comments: Castlefields had to produce a record breaking season to win their 11th league title in another titanic tussle with the Bayley. They lost in the Pool A final from last season to the Bayley, but recovered to win the Audlem Special Events Alan Mayhew Trophy Final by 10, despite being 14 down after eight games off. They also added the Pool A title at the end of the season after beating Ifton by 25, and outside of the league, the Super Cup.
In the league it had started off badly for them though, losing at Wem USC 9-5, but they bounced back with four double figure wins in a row. They got 6 winners at nearest rivals Sir John Bayley, and then won at St Georges 10-6 and got 6 winners at Wrockwardine Wood in three of their toughest away games. Two home wins followed before a loss at Hanwood meant they were 24 points behind the league leaders after 14 games played. But they won another 4 games double figures, including two 13-3 away wins at Bylet and Hanmer. A loss at Ifton broke the momentum, but a big 11-3 win against their main rivals Sir John Bayley regained it. 6 wins, all in double figures, meant they won the league on games won, having won one less match than the Bayley.
Winter Aims: How can you improve on a record breaking season? Keeping the team together is the main thing, and getting 24 games out of a record breaking Callum Wraight would be great again.
