Woore aim for another upset, St Georges up against it, Fields meet Wrockites, Burway take on Ifton
Woore are aiming for another upset as they take on North Shropshire rivals Hanmer in the 2nd round of the Audlem Special Events Team Alan Mayhew Trophy. Woore captain Gary Beff is “looking forward to what is a bit of a local derby. Both teams know each other’s green well. We are expecting a tight game played in the right spirit!” Ifton take on Burway in the other game in the top half, knowing they both have a good chance of making this final for the first time in a decade or more. Captain Adam Dovey says “we face the long journey to Ifton, we know it’s going to be a really tough game against a very good side. Had a few late withdrawals but the lads have started the season well so it should be a good game.”
The holders Castlefields have a tough game against Wrockwardine Wood, who now have more players available on a Wednesday than before so will be hoping for a full strength team to be playing. Castlefields skipper Steve Peach says it is “a tough quarter final tie which we are looking forward to, we’ve had a good record in this comp the last few years so hoping to carry that on this season. Wrockwardine have had a pretty decent start to the season and a tough one at that playing the top two from last year so we know they will be bang up for it also, should be a cracker!” Last year’s runners-up Sir John Bayley take on St Georges, with the Dragons knowing they will be up against it. Stand in captain Martin Gaut says “SJB is a strong opponent, and their former home players bring a certain familiarity. We understand this will be a challenging match, but with a bit of luck and a few good cards, we are capable of taking the win.”
