Two whitewashes, Wrockites close, Burway with big win, Meole get super six and Bylet earn super seven
There were two whitewashes in week 7 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. Sir John Bayley and Castlefields scored the maximum points against Hanmer and Wem USC respectively. Bayley joint captain Paul Evans said “Hanmer are a much changed team so we didn’t really know what to expect but we are obviously pleased to come away with a full house. Having seen the results from the other front runners it proves it was an important result and now we focus on our trop to Ifton.” Best winner for them was Scott Harries 21-3. Fields vice-captain Jon Palmer commented on “a good performance on an immaculate Castlefields green, which has been a dream to play on so far this year. Gary Neal and Adam Jones with crucial wins from losing positions.” Best winner was Michael Beer 21-5. Wrockwardine came close to a potential third whitewash of the evening with a 13-1 success over Adderley. Skipper Liam Stevens says it was “another strong home result on a green that is starting to get sharp. Only two chalks away from a second whitewash but it was job done against a decent side. It’s the sort of score we were quietly hoping to post as we expected SJB and Castlefields to both win heavy. We’ve got a team who are enjoying bowls at the moment and there is fierce competition for places – let’s keep trying to use those two ingredients to match the two best sides and see where it takes us.” Best winner for them was Sam Millward 5 with Ryan Frost the winner for Adders 19.
Burway got a big 12-2 win over Horsehay. Captain Adam Dovey was “really happy with the result Friday, they started really well and the front battled well to get a 3-1 lead. The Green was probably the quickest we’ve played it in a couple of years so took some adjusting from our point of view. All the best to Horsehay for the rest of the season.” Adam was best winner himself 5, with Craig Baugh the best winner for the visitors 12. Meole Brace will be happy with 6 winners at St Georges, just losing out by 4 chalks. Doug Edwards was their best winner 10, with Nige Evans the best winner for the Dragons by the same score. Bylet got 7 winners at home to Ifton but lost out on the aggregate by 4. Captain Cheryl Caswell says “it was one of those games where I think both teams were disappointed for different reasons at the end. However. I think as a team we battled really hard throughout to get the 7 winners against a top Ifton side and we wish them well for the rest of the season.” Best winner was home captain Cheryl Caswell 10, while Joey Williams was best for the Miners 7.
Sir John Bayley lead by 4 to Wrockwardine Wood, who are 3 ahead of Castlefields. Horsehay are 11 behind Wem USC, who are 6 behind Hanwood. Owen Jackson leads three others on 7 wins.
