Horsehay in must win, Ifton aim to inflict first loss, Hanmer face Fields
Horsehay have a must win game in week 8 of the Taylor Support Shropshire Premier Bowling League. They haven’t won so far this season and take on the team directly above them, Wem USC, who are winless themselves since the opening game of the season. Horsehay spokesman Steve Reeves says “we go into tomorrow’s game looking for our elusive first win. Hopefully we can pull out another score line similar to last year’s to kick-start our season. But also as a team were fully aware that any slip ups from us and Wem will punish us.” At the opposite end of the table the league leaders Sir John Bayley put their unbeaten start on the line as they travel to Ifton. Joint captain Scott Simpson knows “travelling to Ifton is always a tough task, especially with the team they are building there. We go unbeaten though and although we know it will be hard to remain that way, we will be aiming to pick up as many points as possible.” Ifton have had a good start themselves, with skipper Dickie Jones knowing “they’re on good form with a side of quality players. Our form isn’t too bad so we hope to remain unbeaten.” 2nd placed Wrockwardine Wood will look to take advantage as they travel to Meole Brace, who have had a good start to the season, but have lost a home game against Ifton. Castlefields in 3rd place will love a repeat of the 13-3 win at Hanmer last season, but this Hanmer side are much different this year. Joint captain Dave Ellison says “we entertain Castlefields and hoping the weather doesn’t break before then. The champions have started well again this season and we will need to be at our very best to remain unbeaten at home this season.”
Highley travel to St Georges looking for a repeat of their 6 winners at Adderley in their last away game, while St Georges have had some close aggregate wins at home this season so far. Hanwood host Bylet looking for a good home win to move themselves away from the bottom of the league, with Bylet also looking for a few winners with the two teams below them meeting each other. Burway face a long trip to Adderley, but currently sit 5th and will be looking for a repeat of their win there last year, while Adderley will want to reverse that score line after some good results so far this season.
